jimmy shergill

Jimmy Shergill has been in showbiz for more than 25 years and is considered amongst the best this industry has to offer. He got his breakthrough performance in Aditya Chopra’s Mohabbatein. Post that, he became the poster boy of chocolate heroes. He did many roles in that, but very soon started diversifying to mature roles. Today, he regrets that decision and he opened up about it in a chat with Bollywood Bubble.

Jimmy Shergill on his chocolate boy image

The actor recently appeared in the web show Choona, where he plays a corrupt MLA. During our chat, when we brought the topic of his early chocolate boy image, the actor issued a warning for young actors.

He said, “Koi bhi youngster jo jaanna chahta hai, main use bhi bata sakta hoon, mere experience se seekho. Jo aap is time pe apne prime of youth mein, aur ek young chocolate boy image ko enjoy kar rahe ho, use enjoy karo. Jaldi se usse nikalke mature roles ki taraf bhaagne ki koshish mat karo. Us phase ko enjoy karo. Wo phase waapas kabhi nahi aane wala hai. (Any youngster who wants to know, I can tell them that learn from my experience. The prime of youth you are in where people are loving your chocolate boy image, enjoy that. Don’t rush into getting out of it towards mature roles. Enjoy that phase as it will never return).”

Jimmy on his mistakes

The actor accepted his mistake too. Jimmy shared, “When people are loving that chocolate boy or young boy next door image, enjoy that phase. Automatically, slowly you will move towards the mature ones. Ab chakkar kya hai ki, grey baal karke, papa ka, uncle ka role, wo to end mein jake humko karna hi hai. To hum uskon pehle se hi karne lag jayein to kya faayda? Humne wahaan galti ki thi. Hum bahut jaldi mein the ki is phase se niklo, aage badhna hai. (Greying your hair and doing father and uncle roles, that we will have to do at the end. So, what’s the use of rushing towards that? That’s where I made a mistake. I was in a rush to get out of that chocolate boy phase.)”

When asked if he regrest doing that, the actor quickly answered, Regret kya, hum peeche jane ki koshish kar rahe hain. (Now, I am trying to go back).” Well, even with mature roles, Jimmy has always impressed with his acts. And even today, he keeps on surprising his audiences.
