In today’s day and age in cinema, women have established a position where they get as meaty parts in films as their male counterparts. However, the situation was not always the same. Up until a few years ago, there was a differential treatment that was given to actresses as compared to actors and many of them have come out in open to speak about it. Actress Rashmika Mandanna is one of the biggest pan-India stars today and has been a part of projects where she has always left a mark, irrespective of the length of her role. Recently, she got into an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble for Trail Blazers 2022 where she opened up about actresses receiving a parity in treatment in films.
When asked if she ever faced such an issue while working on any film, Rashmika recalled a recent incident and used it as an example. She shared, “I’ve always had this sort of a conversation with all the directors and my teams who I’m working with right now. Recently, there was this situation where I have to give an example. Recently there was this situation where I did like a really strong scene and I felt so good about it because that just shifted me a level higher as an actor and I just sort of like found this about myself and I was like why couldn’t I do this in the last six years that I’ve been in the industry. And then, I had this conversation with my director and he told me ki you know it’s quite strange but people don’t write that strong scenes for women and I was like, you did.”
Taking it as an example of the changing scenario in today’s times, Rashmika insisted, “So, definitely things are changing now and it feels so good because women, I think, in the industry are equally as good of a performer as men in the industry. And I think now the writers and directors are coming with stronger stuff and it’s so exciting. I love it and I feel like I’m in the best, I’m in the industry at the best time absolutely.”
On the work front, after ruling the South market, Rashmika entered Hindi films last year with the Amitabh Bachchan co-starrer Goodbye, and now she is gearing up for the release of her next, Mission Majnu with Sidharth Malhotra. She also has Animal with Ranbir Kapoor in the pipeline. In South, she has the Tamil film Varisu with Vijay releasing this month too, followed by the pan-Indian film Pushpa 2: The Rule with Allu Arjun.
