EXCLUSIVE: Shekhar Suman recalls picking and dropping Madhuri Dixit home on his bike while shooting Manav Hatya, says, “My wife used to do her makeup”

Shekhar Suman is all set to win the hearts of millions as Zulfikar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s just-released Netflix series Heeramandi. While on Bollywood Bubble’s podcast, the actor spoke at length about his career, working with stars like Rekha, Madhuri Dixit, Shashi Kapoor and more. He also got candid about transporting Madhuri while filming Manav Hatya and his wife helping her with the costume and makeup.

Suman also revealed the advice he gave son Adhyayan Suman following the whole Kangana Ranaut drama. Scroll below to know all he said.

Shekhar Suman on working with Madhuri Dixit

While talking about working with Madhuri Dixit in Manav Hatya, Shekhar Suman recalled the things he did to make the film possible as the budget was low. When questioned if he was willing to star in a low-budget film with a newcomer, the ‘Heeramandi’ actor said, “I said of course I’ll do it. I justified that if Rekhaji could work with me – a newcomer, then me being a newcomer why won’t I work with another newcomer? We went and met her at her place. When I saw her and how beautiful she looked I told the director that I had no problem working with her.”

Shekhar Suman on providing Madhuri makeup, clothes & transport while shooting Manav Hatya

Recalling the shooting experience, Shekhar said, “Producer aake kehta hai, ‘location ke paise nahi hain, aapka ghar milega to shoot?’ Maine kaha, ‘arey bhai, aisa karo. Thodi dino mein tum mujhse paise lelo and shoot karna. Ghar bhi lelo, kapde bhi lelo, motorcycle bhi lelo. Joh karna hai karlo, joh lena hai leno.’ Toh woh bola, ‘dhekho, abhi Madhuri ko aane ke liye taxi ke paise nahi hai toh can you go pick her up?‘ (The producers told me that they didn’t have a budget for a location and requested to use my house. I said take my house, clothes, bike – whatever you want. They then told me that Madhuri didn’t have the money to come to the shoot location so if I could go and pick her up.)”

The actor continued, “Toh main Madhuri Dixit ko motorcycle pe lene jaata tha. Unko makeup man ke paise nahi the toh mere ko bola ki meri wife, Alka, ko bolo ki woh aachi lagti hai toh woh makeup kar degi. Toh Alka used to do Madhuri’s makeup. Kapde bhi chhaiye the. Alka used to give her clothes also. Poor Madhuri Dixit, joh bolte the (producers) woh karti thi. I used to drop her after shoots and take her for dance practices also. (So I went and picked her up by bike. They then didn’t have money for a makeup artist, so they requested my wife, Alka, to do the makeup. In the end, Alka even lent Madhuri clothes for the movie. Madhuri was so naive, she did everything she was told to.)”

Advice to Adyayan after Kangana Ranaut controversy

Talking about the advice he gave his son Adhyayan Suman after the whole Kangana Ranaut drama, Shekhar Sumar said, “Samjhaya ki yeh zindagi ka hissa hai. Yaha aachi, bhuri sari cheeze (hote hai). Hum samjhe mere saath sab kuch behtreen hoga, khoobsurat hogi… nahi. (I explained that it’s part of life. You won’t always only get the good things.)”

He continued, “Life has an ugly side to it. which is really very ugly. Unpredictable. Unseen. And it will suddenly be in your face. (I told him) face it, and get it out of your way and move on. That’s it. Don’t carry the baggage with you. So he picked up the threads from there and moved on. He promised himself, us (his parents) and God that he would never look back. No matter what. And he never did.”
