EXCLUSIVE: Farida Jalal recalls the time Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan were dating, says, “They used to fight on silly things”

Veteran actor Farida Jalal has shared screen space with both Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan in multiple films. The actress has known the couple ever since they were dating and has even witnessed their love-hate relationship. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Farida Jalal shares how Amitabh-Jaya used to fight over silly things when they went on coffee dates. She also comments on Jaya’s equation with the paparazzi and how they cross their line.

Farida Jalal on Amitabh-Jaya fights

During the interview, the Heeramandi actress revealed that they often went on coffee outings and enjoyed long drives together. She shares, “Mai Pali Hill mein rehti thi aur Amitji Juhu mein. Unki shaadi hone wali thi hui nahi thi. Dono mein courtship chal raha tha aur jhagde jaise couple ke hote hai aapas, mein waise hote the. Amitji raat ke waqt khud gaadi chaate, wo (jaya)bagal mein baithti aur main peeche. Mai unko bolti mujhe kebab mein haddi banake kyu late ho aaplog. (I used to stay in Pali Hill and Amitabh resided in Juhu. They were not married at that time. They were in courtship period and used to fight like every couple does. Amitji used to drive, Jaya sat beside and I was behind. I used to tell them I feel like I am third wheeling but they insisted me to join them.”

She further added, “I was someone who used to go to bed early but still they used to call me. And they kept on fighting and I witnessed it. Jaya then used to cry and he used to cajole her. I used to love those moments. My friendship with jaya goes a long way. I called her jiya lovingly. While returning from coffee date, they used to talk about films. They then dropped me and went their home. All I can say is they are lovely people. They called me and Gulzar Saab at their wedding. No one else was there from the industry.”

We also asked the actress what the couple usually fought on. To this she said, “Unke jhagde bahut stupid baton pe hote the jo mai nahi bata sakti. Lekin baccko ki tarah hote the wo jhagde. Aise koi buri baat nahi hoti thi, pyaar mohabbat ki ache baatein hoti thi. Ye jaldi ruth bhi jaati na jaya. (Their fights were on stupid things which I can’t even tell. They used to fight like kids. And there was nothing wrong in it, it was all lovingly. Jaya even used to get angry instantly.”

On Jaya Bachchan’s equation with paparazzi

Commenting on how Jaya is often seen getting miffed at paps, Farida Ji avers, “Paps unko badnaam kar rahe hai. Aisi thodi hai wo. (Paparazzi don’t show her in a good light, she isn’t like that).”

Talking about her rude behavior towards the, she comments, “Acha karti hai na wo. Paps galat karte hai. (She does the right thing by scolding them. Paparazzi is wrong many time). They are crossing their limits, aren’t they? We need them as much as they need us, but line should not be crossed.”
