Govvind Namdev on why he never spoke with Subhash Ghai

Namdev recounted, “When I got this role, I was thrilled because I was working with superstars like Dilip Kumar and Raaj Kumar. I announced it to the world, proud of my achievement. But when I found out that my entire character had been cut from the movie, it felt like I barely escaped a heart attack. It affected me deeply. For a week, I was in a daze, drinking heavily. I didn’t know how to cope with it. Sometimes, I would cry in my wife’s arms. She was also confused and scared for me. It was a difficult time to get through. After that, I never felt the need to meet Ghai. I hoped he would take the initiative to reach out, but when he didn’t, I accepted it.”

Namdev further elaborated on how he discovered his role was cut before the movie’s release. “I realised something was wrong when they didn’t call me for dubbing, despite my numerous dialogues. They kept saying they would inform me soon. Finally, Ghai’s brother, Ashok, told me what had happened. He tried to reassure me, saying we’d work together in the future and not to worry. But the fear remained.”

Govind Namdev has appeared in numerous films, including OMG: Oh My God!, OMG 2, Sarfarosh, Bandit Queen, and Prem Granth. He also revealed that he would soon be seen in the upcoming Ajay Devgn starrer, Raid 2.

Despite the challenges and setbacks, Namdev’s dedication to his craft and his ability to overcome adversity have made him a respected figure in Bollywood. His story is a testament to resilience and the complex emotions actors often face behind the scenes.
