Mahesh Bhatt is one of the most loved directors in the Indian film industry. Over the years, he has directed films such as Gumraah, Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke, Aashiqui, and Criminal among others. After a long break, he returned to the director’s chair with Sadak 2 in 2020. Sadak 2 starred Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt. With Avika Gor’s latest release 1920: Horrors of the Heart, Mahesh Bhatt returned as a writer.
Mahesh Bhatt opens up on direction
Now, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, we asked Mahesh Bhatt if it has instilled an excitement in him to go back to direction. He responded saying, “No.That was a curve and that was a decision taken at that point of time, at that moment. I have always believed that one must make way for tomorrow.“
The filmmaker added, “There’s a beautiful poster we have in my writing room where there’s an image of me, Vikram and Krishna directing which has got yesterday, today and tomorrow written in it. So, yesterday was me, today was Vikram and tomorrow was her. So, I think this 3 time zones when they combine, you create an atmosphere and you give it the kind of relevance of today with the young energy.”
Talking about his last directorial project Sadak 2, it was released on the OTT platform Disney+Hotstar in 2020. It starred Alia, Aditya, Sanjay, Makrand Deshpande, Jishu Sengupta and others. The film was produced by Mukesh Bhatt.
During the candid conversation, Mahesh also spoke about the influence of female energy in his life, daughters Pooja Bhatt, Shaheen Bhatt, Alia Bhatt’s success and granddaughter Raha Kapoor.
