EXCLUSIVE: Jiya Shankar on lashing out for TV actor tag: It was not directed towards Abhishek Malhan at all

Jiya Shankar was recently a part of Bigg Boss OTT 2 and her brewing romance with Abhishek Malhan grabbed attention. A week ago, Jiya Shankar penned a long note slamming those who tag actors as TV actors. After the post went viral, netizens speculated if this was a response to Abhishek Malhan’s video where he spoke about TV actors turning into YouTubers. In an exclusive conversation with Bollywood Bubble, the actress has now revealed why she was miffed by such tagging. She also mentioned whether it was directed towards Abhishek Malhan.

Jiya Shankar on calling out for TV actor tag

Talking about whether TV actor tag bothers her, the actress shared, “Of course! I mean the problem is not that they are trying to put this label on us. The problem is when it actually hampers our work. So a lot of TV actors must have faced this, if they audition for a film they’ll be like if at all you’ve done a lot of TV please don’t mention it. We don’t want that TV Tag. TV wale bahut overacting karte hai (TV actors tend to overact). Then why are you taking the audition?

She further mentioned how it is not easy to be a TV actor. She insisted, “You’re testing me for this particular part or a film, but if you’ve already made this assumption about me being a TV actor then why do you want to do so. So a lot of things happen because of this and that is the reason why I have said this a lot of a lot many times that do not label actors. An actor is an actor if they are good at something they are going to be everywhere. And TV is huge. It is bread and butter for a lot of actors and also it is not easy to be a TV actor.”

Jiya Shankar reveals if her tweet was directed to Abhishek Malhan

Last month, the actress shared a long note expressing resentment towards TV actor tag. Revealing if the tweet was directed towards Abhishek Malhan, the actress mentioned, “No, it was not directed towards him anyway.  I saw that but I also gave importance to all the people be it creators, or influencers I was just like do whatever you want. And it was not directed  towards Abhishek at all I have been talking about this TV actor thing since even before Big Boss true so it was not for him.”
