EXCLUSIVE: Kamya Panjabi recalls her experience as a single mother: I don’t like to play victim card

Kamya Panjabi is busy with ColorsTV’s latest show, Neerja Ek Nayi Pehchaan. The show dvelves deep into the lives of a mother-daughter duo. Ahead of the show’s premiere, Kamya sat down for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble. During the candid conversation, Kamya revealed if having being a single mother for over a decade made her say yes to the show.

Kamya told us, “No, I don’t get into that. Me being a single mother for 10-12 years is a different thing. That is my life. Mere show se uska koi lena dena nahi hai (Its nothing to do with my show). The kind of work I choose uska koi lena dena hai. Woh alag hai. (Its different).”

The actress added, “Main kyu victim card play karu? Oh I’ve been a single mother toh main ye wala show lungi kyunki maa beti ki kahaani hai. Nahi aisa nahi hai. Kahaani kya hai aur uss kahaani main mera kitna yogdan hai, kitna rahega, mera liye ye matter karta hai. (Why should I play the victim card? I didn’t think that I’ll take this show because it’s about mother-daughter’s relationship. It’s not like that. What is the story, and how much is my contribution to the story, that matters to me).”

She added, “ Baaki toh hum actor hai, hum sab kuch play kar denge. Hum bichari bhi play kardenge. Hum chandi bhi play kar denge. Dekho hum artist hai. Meri personal life se inspire hoke ya woh cheezon ko dimag main rakhke mein aisa kaam nahi karti (Rest all, we’re all actors, we can play anything. We can play the role of a poor person, we can also play a fierce role. We are artists).”

For the uninitiated, Kamya was previously married to Bunty Negi and got divorced in 2013. She gave birth to their first child, daughter Aara in 2009. Kamya married to Shalabh Dang in 2020. He has welcomed Kamya’s daughter Aara in his life.

On the other hand, Kamya also opened up on facing people’s judgements, divorce and second marriage.
