EXCLUSIVE: Kanika Mann on her look being inspired by Alia Bhatt: I am flattered that people are comparing me to her

Kanika Mann, who started her career with music videos and Punjabi films, rose to fame with her stint in Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega. She later participated in Khatron Ke Khiladi and explored web space with series Roohaniyat. She is all set to do her second TV show as lead titled Chand Jalne Laga. It stars Vishal Aditya Singh alongside her and is touted to be an intense love story. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Kanika Mann shared if she is dating, comparison with Alia Bhatt, people looking down on television and much more.

On choosing second project after two years

After leaving a mark with her stint in Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega, Kanika did a reality show and a web show titled Roohaniyat. Talking about what made her choose Chand Jalne Laga after two years, Kanika said, “I am a little selfish and choosy about the project. I want everything to revolve around my character, which I think every actor does. But, being honest, I was waiting for something like this and felt it was best for me.”

Kanika Mann on people comparing her look with Alia Bhatt

When Kanika shared the teaser of Chand Jalne Laga on her social media, a few netizens called her saree-clad look inspired by Alia from Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Talking about the same, Kanika reacted,  “Mujhe na actually isse pehle log bahut jyada similarities ki baatein bolte the toh chid machti thi. Lekin dheere dheere maine is cheez ko compliment ki tarah lena shuru kiya. (Earlier when people pointed similarities, I used to get annoyed. But eventually, I started taking it as a compliment). Now I am really liking and its flattering that people are comparing me to Alia Bhatt. Because I think she is amazing.  She is my favourite actress and recently she even got a National Award.  I am pleased that people are drawing similarities.”

Kanika answers if she is dating someone…

Since the upcoming show is a passionate romantic story, Kanika shared her idea of love and said, “I think the definition of love keeps changing with time for me.”

We further asked if she is dating someone, to which, she revealed, “I want to date somebody. Mujhe lagta tha date and all nahi bas kaam karungi lekin abhi mujhe chahiye koi. Aur mujhe mil nahi raha hai (Earlier I only used to think about doing lots of work. But now I need someone but unfortunately, I am not getting (chuckles).”

On people looking down at the television medium

After Guddan Tumse Na Ho Payega, Kanika featured in the web show Roohaniyat and the Amazon Mini movie Rakshak. Kanika told us about returning to TV with Chand Jalne Laga after doing a film and web series, “First of all, I liked the script. Second, I openly say I love TV more than any other platform. It is because you have the privilege to connect with your audience on an everyday basis which is important as an actor. If you see, people still know me as Guddan and not Prisha from Roohaniyat despite working hard for that role as well.”

She also agreed that people look down upon television. Sharing an instance she recalled, “One of my best friend and Rakshak co-star questioned me when I signed this show. They asked why am I returning to TV after doing great on web space. But while doing Roohaniyat I noticed web shows are time-consuming. And as an individual, I love going on sets and working everyday since it gives me peace. So, I felt that missing in the web space. That’s why I wanted to comeback on television but I was just waiting for the right project.”

Kanika’s upcoming show Chand Jalne Laga started on 23rd October on Colors TV at 9:30 pm.
