Karan Kundrra opens up about the Thank You For Coming controversy
It is not very often that the audience gets to witness a women-centric movie that speaks about women. Recently, Karan Boolani’s movie on sex comedy Thank You For Coming released and made headlines for having a context of exploring female pleasure. We asked Karan Kundrra how he felt when he saw the women talking charge and defending their stance in Thank You For Coming. Responding to this, Karan said, “I have three sisters and a mother. So I am pretty much tuned to the fact that I have brought up in a way that I never had to defend. Even in this film, we never had to defend. Even Jeetu sir came and said ke ‘humari ladkiya kar lengi aur unko sirf humare support ki zaroorat hai, they don’t need our protection’.“
He added, “I have also been a part of a film called Dolly Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare which happened because I saw Lipstick Under My Burkha. I was amazed by that film and Alankita Srivastav. I called her up myself and I left messages that I really want to work with you even when I knew that this is a women-centric film and I am just a supporting cast. It is a women-centric film talking about women, made by women and this is my second film. I am very proud of the fact.”
Karan Kundrra opens up about playing supporting roles
Further, he also shared how he tackles the voices that ask him not to take up supporting roles in movies. To this, Karan Kundrra said, “I have a very simple thumb rule. Advice unse lo jinhone khud kuch ukhaada hota hai. Period. If Anil sir comes to me and tells me that I have to lose 10 kgs, then I will. Because that’s Anil Kapoor with his legacy, with his experience and he has done something for me to respect the fact. He is somebody I will listen to. I will only listen to people who have been a part of the journey that I am now” For the unversed, Karan Kundrra recently shared the screen with Anil Kapoor in Thank You For Coming.
Ahead in the conversation, Karan Kundrra speaks about his relationship with Tejasswi Prakash and how he deals with judgments over it.
