Mona Singh is an Indian actress who gained immense recognition after Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. Though she has been a part of biggies like 3 Idiots, Made In Heaven season 2, Kaala Paani, and many more, she is still known as Jassi. Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin holds a special place in Mona Singh’s heart as it was a series that won over many. The girl played by Mona Singh was average-looking that did not hide behind heavy makeup and was real at her best.

Now, we had a chance to speak with Jassi aka Mona Singh and we indulged in a hearty conversation with her in an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble. During the chat, Mona opened up about her character and breaking beauty norms with it.

Mona Singh shares why Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin is special to her

As we had a hearty conversation with Mona Singh, we asked her about her character ‘Jassi’ not being in the bounds of looking in a certain way. Jassi’s look was anything like an average girl, with bangs, specs, and braces. The audience loved the character for being raw and portraying naturality through it. Now, in our exclusive interview, Mona Singh has spoken about the same and has shared why ‘Jassi’ is close to her heart.

Responding to this, Mona said, “Initially, you see every girl who wants to enter is always under pressure to look her best, to look skinniest best, fairest best, have done all the jobs and then enter with all the confidence. I think confidence should come with your talent and not with the way you look. That’s what Jassi was all about. I remember that is exactly the reason why Jassi got so much love because you are more than your looks and more than what you wear. Who are you as a person, what are your intentions, what do you want to do and what are your goals – see that in a person, see their heart. I’m so glad I was a part of that change. It started a whole movement.”

Further, Mona Singh shared a small anecdote that added to her joy of playing the role of Jassi. Mona shared, “There were advertisements in papers where people had said that ‘we want a secretary just like Jassi, looks don’t matter’. I didn’t even know if there was going to be a makeover. I was happy being that.”

Further in the interview, Mona Singh also shared whether she faced any rejections after she essayed the character of Jassi. She also shared it was her conscious decision to stay away from daily soaps. Mona opened up about why she was willing to take a break from Jassi and concentrate more on reality shows.

Mona shares, “I consciously chose to stay away from daily soaps after Jassi. I knew that there could not be anything bigger than Jassi at this moment for me. As everything will be compared to Jassi, instead of jumping on to playing another character, I was willing to step back from this, take a break from acting and concentrate more on reality shows. So, it was a conscious decision to shift.”

Further in the interview, she also spoke about self-doubt and dealing with judgments.
