Actor Pankhuri Awasthy Rode welcomed her twins on July 25, 2023, with her husband Gautam Rode. She was blessed with two babies – a daughter Radhya and a son Raditya. Since their arrival, Pankhuri has been enjoying her motherhood phase to the fullest. We can see her journey as a mother on social media and it is just beyond beautiful. However, the journey to become a mother is not as it also comes with postpartum depression.
Speaking about the same, during a candid chat with Bollywood Bubble, Pankhuri talks about postpartum and how her husband Gautam Rode took care of her during the pre and post delivery.
Talks about postpartum depression
“We all are aware of postpartum, so psychological well-being is also important post your delivery. So your life gets impacted in all ways possible and also your professional life. Suddenly there’s too much, you’re not yourself, you have a lot of responsibility. You’re getting to sleep and you need to take care of two people while you’re not completely capable of taking care. So, you’re overwhelmed. Besides that, there’s a feeling that I’ll never be this person again. I need to get back to work, so all those things add to postpartum,” she said.

When asked how postpartum is been seen in today’s time, she said, “Taking references from my mother, my friend’s mother, postpartum as a word maybe it did exist but it was not in circulation at all. They had more responsibilities whether they were working or housemoms. But managing the household work, they made it look like a piece of cake. There was no time for postpartum. I’m sure there would be many women who would have acted out and labelled as ‘tantrum queen’. If you don’t let yourself sink into those emotions, you need to keep your mind active and need to know what is happening to you.“
Opens up on being overwhelmed due to postpartum
I had no idea that there would be a part of me that would be emotional post delivering. But it did hit me a little. When it’s happening, I’m sure the mother knows that ‘I’m not being loving towards my child’. Once I was released from the hospital, I had help. I can’t say that I didn’t have any help and I did a lot of things but still only you can feed the child. Nothing towards the babies but I was overwhelmed with the babies all the time at least for one one-and-half months when they were really small.” Adding that she had a 45-minute routine with one child and as she went to rest, her other kid woke up and another 45-minute routine was conducted. She says the cycle goes throughout the day and night and it gets to you.

She then added, “You want to do it, I’m not saying that it is a pressure. Yes, you do feel a little tired but it’s a part of it. For the first one-and-half months, I was a little overwhelmed. What would happen was that I would feed the child and then I come here and be a little emotional. Then Gautam (Rode) would notice and ask ‘what happened?’ And I just say that ‘I’m not feeling fine.’ I know I’m being stupid and I know there’s no reason to be, I know I can take the time but some part of you is emotional and I guess that’s postpartum. But at that time even Gautam was a rock for me. Even before the kids, he took care of me.”
The Madam Sir actor ended by saying that she and Gautam started making short-term goals. They decided to focus on work and getting back in shape.
