EXCLUSIVE: Purab Kohli reveals he got ‘recognised as an actor’ after Rock On: I didn’t know what I had signed up to

Purab Kohli began his career in the film industry with the hit teen show Hip Hip Hurray in the 90s. Later, he starred in one of the most iconic movies of all time, Rock On!! The movie is one of the most memorable ones and is still loved today. Rock On actor Purab Kohli joined Bollywood Bubble for an exclusive conversation where he revealed how he got the role in the movie. Adding to this, he also shared how his daughter reacted to the movie after watching it.

Purab Kohli on bagging a role in Rock On

As Rock On completed 15 years. Purab Kohli delved back into the days when Rock On became a hit. Speaking about the same, Purab said, “Before Rock On, I had no idea what stardom meant. I was not a part of the youth’s successes. At the time it was released, it was talked about. I got recognised as an actor, but it was not mad stardom. And then Rock On happened.“

He added, “I didn’t know what I had signed up to. I know Riteish and Farhan from before. And Shanoo Sharma was the casting director who called me. And I was made to do the audition. They were looking for Joe (Arjun’s part) and when I auditioned, was told ‘you don’t fit the character I am looking for, but I think you will fit the other character. So, come back and do that’. So I did that. And I was not getting any reply for it. 2-3 weeks had passed. So, anyway I left it because audition toh bahot dete hai. And then I met Ritesh in the gym.”

Purab Kohli’s reaction to the time Rock On released

Further, he mentioned that Ritesh praised his audition and Purab shared that he had no idea to which audition he was talking about. Once he realised, he said, “I got excited, because it is Excel and Excel is producing it. So I was said that I will get a call. And then I got a call, and I was excited that I’m on an Excel film. Then I did Rock On, then the first time it hit me like a full jhatka, like a lightening bolt was when we saw the movie for the first time. I couldn’t move from the chair for the first 10 minutes. And then it was just madness. And then it released and the craze started of Rock On. I have never seen that kind of craziness.

Purab Kohli on daughter’s feedback on Rock On

Further in the interview, Purab Kohli also mentioned how her daughter reacted after watching Rock On. Speaking of which, he said, “I tried to show her Rock On and we started playing it and within five minutes she’s telling me ‘now, can I go wash my hands’. I said it was a family movie, I tried to play Rock On and it got rejected in 5 minutes.”
