Ravi Dubey & Sargun Mehta on Radhika Madan’s TV industry comment
Recently the popular Jodi sat down for a candid chat with a Bollywood Bubble host and opened up on the strong statement made by Radhika Madan about the television industry.
For the unversed Radhika Madan, who made a transition from television to films, had in an interview opened up about the work culture in the Indian television industry. She had said that TV actors have to work for 40-50 hours at a stretch. The scripts were sent to the set minutes before the scene was shot. There was no scope for any creative input because there was no time.
Ravi Dubey and Sargun Mehra reacts to Radhika Madan’s comments on TV industry. Ravi Dubey said, “It is one of the most efficient industries in the Indian entertainment industry. Television is the most efficient and I think that its biggest asset is its biggest liability too. It is a deadline-centric media but that deadline makes you quite efficient. So when you work on film or on the OTT platform people will not be able to believe your planning.”
He further added that, “to make something good a lot of money and investment are needed and television does that quite well. Secondly, you have to give your best even if the script of the show is delivered at 8.30 for a 9. am shift. So when you do not have a script, how does one perform that is actually the test of professionalism and efficiency? It is the best medium. I was just saying to somebody that if there is a medium that has survived the test of time, the test of crises, whether it COVID, or this, that or other, it is this.”
“It’s not Bollywood it is not the Indian film industry so to say it is definitely not the OTT industry. If any of these industries have to survive they should quickly synergize by television is what I would honestly advise everybody,” said Ravi.
Sargun Mehta further added
Sargun added, “Its unbelievable that people say something like this. You know today um whether you have to promote the biggest film or you have to promote the biggest Ott show you come to television. Television doesn’t go to a film or to an Ott platform to promote themselves. They don’t need you as they are connected to the audience everyday day in and day out. You know yesterday my mom was saying she was watching some song and she was like this was so nice, this girl was quite popular but then she left. My mother added that this is what happens on TV I watch it every day and I remember that girl every day. “
Sargun further added, “The reach of TV is humongous, speaking about efficiency, the two-hour movie that takes many months to make is made every week on television. Who’s talking about efficiency yeah as an actor now I am doing Punjabi films. There are comedy scenes and you cannot write everything down. You know it’s impromptu and we have literally performed some iconic scenes that are there in my Punjabi films that people talk about . They are like, ‘How did you go about it’. I said we didn’t even know two minutes before that the scene was going to be like this. I said the writer told me then but it I didn’t flinch because I’ve done television. I knew yeah so it’s preparation and as an actor, you can’t say no, you don’t need time you need to know how to hold a seat that’s true.”
