rithvikk dhanjani, independence day,

This year Indians are all set to celebrate 78th Independence Day. To celebrate the special occasion, Rithvikk Dhanjani takes a trip down memory lane and recalls childhood memories. He also shares what freedom means to him and which patriotic Bollywood movie he would love to rewatch. Excerpts:

As Independence Day embodies the spirit of freedom, what does this day and idea of freedom mean to Rithvikk Dhanjani?

Independence to me is freedom in every right, especially the right of speech, to be able to say what you mean and mean what you say. Not to be fearful of putting your opinion out there, not be fearful of wanting to stand up for change, not be fearful of any wings, right, left, or anything of that sort. Just complete freedom where you can express everything that goes on in your heart and your mind. That’s pretty much freedom for me, where you can completely feel yourself, who you truly are in a nation without any consequences.

A Bollywood patriotic movie you would like to rewatch this day?

I loved so many Bollywood patriotic films. Ran De Basanti is one of my all-time favourite films. Bhagat Singh is also one of my favourite films. So these two Bollywood patriotic films are the ones that sort of come to my mind that I would love to rewatch today.

What are some of your childhood memories associated with this festival?

My childhood memories from Independence Day, when I was in school we had to wear white clothes for March past and to wait for Flag hosting. Because after the flag hosting we used to get Motichoor ladoo so I used to go twice in a line so that I could get 2-3 ladoos because I love Motichoor ladoo.

As an actor, your life often is so busy that you tend to miss out on occasions. How do you manage to dedicate enough time and enjoy all?

With God’s grace, I am at a space in my career and life where I can choose my time and the important days. On the occasions that are important to me, my family and my loved ones, I make sure that I will take time out for them. For that I will even twist and turn my work around so that even if I have to work, I’ll make sure I’ll finish it in time and I can run, drive, and take a flight to where I have to be. But I’ll always make sure that I’ll be there because I want to be a part of those moments.
