Prabhas has become a pan-India star ever since the massive success of the Baahubali franchise. However, his last three outings – Saaho, Radhe Shyam and Adipurush failed to perform well at the box office. When the trailer of Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire directed by KGF helmer Prashanth Neel was unveiled, the expectations from Prabhas skyrocketed. As the movie released in theatres today, let’s find out if the Rebel Star will make a roaring comeback or not.
Prabhas to make a roaring comeback with Salaar
Bollywood Bubble exclusively got in touch with trade experts who opined why Salaar is an important movie for Prabhas. Talking about opening day, Film exhibitor Akshaye Rathi emphasized, “There’s a great chance that Salar will open bigger than Dunki because the southern markets will perform a lot better. Also, Prabhas enjoys a massive fan following in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Talking about the northern belt, despite demerits Adipurush opened with a bang and that proves the fact that Prabhas has a loyal fan following.”
Sharing his thoughts on Prabhas having the potential of making a roaring comeback with Salaar, Akshaye Rathi further shared, “Going by the fact that Salaar is a mass entertainer I hope so. He is collaborating with Prashanth Neel who is known to deliver one of the most commercial mainstream mass entertainers out there. If you purely go by what happened with KGF 1 and 2, the guy knows how to create some great cinematic moments and with a mass star like Prabhas, he’s capable of repeating that magic that he created with Yash.”
While prominent trade expert Ramesh Bala insisted, “Salaar has the best potential to do well at the box office because it is directed by Prashanth Neel. Also, it is an action genre like KGF. The Yash starrer has done more than 400 crores in the north, even in small villages in Bihar and UP. So, the action genre has always the potential to do well everywhere. Yeah, so basically it’s a roaring comeback for Prabhas.”
Prabhas starrer Salaar
Salaar is witnessing a clash with Shah Rukh Khan starrer Dunki. SRK delivered two 1000 crore movies this year with Pathaan and Jawan. Looking at this, Ramesh Bala pointed out what can be the repercussions for Prabhas if Salaar tanks. “For Shah Rukh Khan, if Dunki doesn’t do well, nobody is going to question him because in a single calendar year, he would have given two out of three thousand crore blockbusters. So, he would proceed to 2024 unscathed. But in Prabhas case, if Salaar tanks, then it would be very tough for him as his future movies will be even more questioned. If he doesn’t deliver it, even there is negative talk in terms of reviews, word of mouth, or box office found short of just a thousand crores, then it would be a very difficult time for Prabhas post Salaar.“
Salaar released in theatres today, 22nd December with Prabhas delivering his best performance after Baahubali. Adding to the excitement, Prithviraj Sukumaran gives him a neck-to-neck competition.
