EXCLUSIVE: Salim Khan reveals why he chose to send sons Arbaaz Khan and Salman Khan to boarding school during his relationship with Helen

Actor-producer Arbaaz Khan interviewed his father, screenwriter Salim Khan in his talk show The Invincibles. During the heartfelt chat, Salim Khan spoke about how he has immense faith in fate and how it has shaped his life. Arbaaz Khan also prodded him about his marriage with Salma Khan and how despite tough times he has managed to keep both sides of the family together.

Salim Khan on sending Salman-Arbaaz to boarding school during an affair with Helen

During the chat, Arbaaz asked his father why he decided to send him and Salman to boarding school during his relationship with Helen. Talking about it, the screenwriter said, “That was the only way so that there is not any problem in your education. Naturally, you guys would have been disturbed which would affect studies. Par mai 2 saal mein tumko waapis bhi le aaya. (I had called you both after 2 years).”

Arbaaz further asked Salim how he tried to salvage the situation and he didn’t leave either of the family. “Us samay badi baat yeh thi ki mera intention convey hota tha. Baccho pe bhi mera intention hota tha, gharwalon pe bhi, aur sab pe hota tha. Ki yeh isme atka hai, phasa hai, ye family ko chod nahi sakta aur isme rahega. Aur sab mein pehle usko tumhari mummy (salma) ne accept kiya aur uske baad aana jana shuru hogaya aur fir sab ache se rehne lage. (That time it was a big deal for me that my intention used to get conveyed. Be it my kids or other house members, everyone understood me. Everyone was aware that I didn’t want to leave this family and be with Helen as well. But eventually, Salma was the first to accept her after which everyone started living happily).”

He also added, “Yeh relationship bahut se logo ne film mein try kiye hai aur bahar bhi ki hogi. Magar ye koi kar na saka kyuki jo barabari ka importance dena hota hai wo bahut mushkil hai. (Everyone tried to showcase this kind of relationship in films. But it was difficult to do as giving equal importance is difficult).”

On marriage with Salma Khan

Before talking about his relationship with Helen, he also recalled how his marriage with Salma Khan happened, He shared, “Before our courtship, I told Salma I want to meet your parents as hiding and meeting is a wrong thing. So when I went to her house, I felt all the Maharashtrians from India were there (chuckles). I was very nervous about seeing so many people. My father-in-law told me that I was a nice guy but religion was the problem. I was 24 at that time. I then told him, ‘Doctor sahib, meri aur aapki beti ke 1760 problems ho sakte hai, but religion will never be one of them. We then went and registered our marriage but Salma’s father didn’t accept or visit us for 10 years. He came for the first time after Sohail was born. He just saw us and went away.”
