Salman Khan made his debut in 1988 with Biwi Ho Toh Aisi, but it was Maine Pyar Kiya, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, that got him recognition. Salman and Sooraj then worked together in Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), Hum Saath-Saath Hain (1999), and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015) with Sonam Kapoor in key roles. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the director recalled why they were apprehensive about Salman’s voice in Maine Pyar Kiya and had thought of getting it dubbed.
Sooraj Barjatya on why he thought of dubbing Salman Khan voice for Maine Pyar Kiya
Recalling why they thought of getting Salman Khan’s voice dubbed, Sooraj Barjatya shared, “When we dubbed his voice for Maine Pyar Kiya, so during morning Salman’s voice does not get full justice. So we finished the entire Maine Pyaar Kiya dubbing in the morning and then we took to the mixing theatre, we realized there was not enough throw. That time we could not even use sync sound. So at that time, there was a big question that this voice would not be suited because it couldn’t be heard. There was even a talk about whether we should get it dubbed by an artist. But the credit goes to my father who said ‘No, he is a new boy and we must give him one more chance’. Then we re-dubbed it in the afternoon.”
