Sanya Malhotra on her mother’s sacrifices
When talking about the sacrifices parents make for their kids, Sanya Malhotra said, “My parents are really cool. I have an elder sister, and our parents never told us to adjust or compromise. Instead, they always encouraged us to follow our dreams. My mom just wanted us to complete our post-graduation because, you never know, it’s always good to have a job as a backup. If things don’t work out, at least you have something to fall back on.”
She added, “In a middle-class family, these things are considered important. So, she wanted us to complete our education first, and after that, we were free to chase our dreams. But my dad—never, not even once—made us feel restricted in any way. There were no rules about what we should wear or how we should behave. We had complete freedom to discover ourselves, to fulfil our passions and dreams.”
Sanya calls her mother a ‘fighter’
Further explaining, “I know for a fact that if I call my mother, she would never say, ‘Beta, you have to do this, no matter what.’ She is quite a fighter. My mother had to be the perfect homemaker, and I think her life was very similar to what’s shown in the film. But she always said that she would never want my sister or me to go through the same struggles.”
The Mrs actress concluded, “That’s why she emphasized our education from a very young age— so that we could be financially independent. She always told us, ‘Don’t do anything that doesn’t make you happy.’ And it was the same for my sister too. She would always say, ‘If you’re not happy, that’s okay. Something better will come along.'”
