Shaheen Bhatt talks about battling depression
Shaheen said, “Depression started when I was very young. I was about 12 years old and also at that time there was no emotional vocabulary. Depression wasn’t even being talk about at that time when I was growing up. The internet wasn’t aware it was. I didn’t really have an information on it and I didn’t really know what I was going through. So, growing up I thought I was an odd kid and that there’s something wrong with me. Why am I sad all the time? Why is everybodyhappy and why am I sad? I didn’t really know what was happening to me. As the stigma around mental health is pervasive and for me to come to the terms with the fact that the label of depression was given to me, it took some time, it took some acceptance. I had a negative association with that word which is now completely changed.”

More than anything it was a conversation. Once when I started going to therapy and once I realized what was happening was depressein then it was just something that we all collectively learned together.” She added that he family’s support helped her a lot.
She went on to add, “I’ve learned to cope with it better.”
