Sharib Hashmi has slowly but gradually created a niche in the film industry with his choices of projects and performances. Most recently, he played two diametrically opposite roles, as the villain in the political thriller Afwaah, and the supportive husband in Tarla which got him appreciation. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, the actor reflected on how the year has been for him. Recalling his journey, he also shared how he was not able to capitalise on the attention he got after working in Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The actor also revealed he was a part of Sidharth Malhotra starter Shershaah and why he backed out despite shooting for 2 days.

Sharib Hashmi 2023 being a phenomenal year

This year, Sharib had 4 releases which include Tarla, Afwaah, Mission Majnu, and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. He also got his first house and visited the Holy Shrine, Mecca Madina. Expressing happiness about joyful moments, Sharib gushed, “This year has been kind to me, be it personally or professionally, I have gained a lot. During ZHZB, when I got house keys in reel life, I received it in real life as well. It was a heartfelt moment.”

On entering the industry late and having apprehensions

Sharib entered the industry during his ‘30s despite the acting bug biting him since childhood. However, for a long time he was apprehensive about his looks. “When I grew up, I was apprehensive regarding my looks, personality, and height. I completely gave up my desire of becoming an actor. But I was sure I wanted to stay in this industry only.”

On getting accepted in the industry

Talking about his journey, the actor shared, “When I entered the industry in 2008, the next 3 years were difficult as I auditioned for multiple projects. I was not even looking forward for playing main lead. But when I got the big breakthrough Jab Tak Hai Jaan, followed by playing lead in Filmistaan, both the work got me the appreciation and I feel I got accepted easily.”

Sharib Hashmi further looked back on not bagging good roles despite having starred in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, alongside Shah Rukh Khan and playing lead in Filmistaan. Talking about how Family Man revived the slump in his career, the actor averred, “The time after Filmistaan was much more tough for me as my films were not releasing and I even faced financial setback. But fortunately, I got a call for The Family Man and it changed my fate.” The actor also confirmed that season 3 is very much on the cards and shoot will begin earlier next year.

Sharib Hashmi recalls working with Shah Rukh Khan

The actors shared screen space in 2012 Yash Chopra movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan. Recalling his experience, The Family Man actor recalled, “I regret not getting a chance to work with Shah Rukh Khan again. When I reached the set on first day, the whole setup was like a dream come true. Later, when I was rehearsing for my scene, Shah Rukh came and pulled my bed sheet and I fell then and there as I could not believe it. It was the most beautiful day of my life. When the shoot was completed, Shah Rukh told me he had a great time working with me. I got so happy that I could not even express how much I admire him.”

Sharib reveals he was supposed to do Shershaah with Sidharth Malhotra

On a parting note, Sharib recalled how he was excited when he got to work with Sidharth Malhotra in Mission Majnu. “Sidharth and I were supposed to do Shershaah first. I even shot for it for two days, but due to some date issues, I had to leave that film. Then I got a chance to work with him in Shershaah and he is really a sweet person.”
