Veteran actor Sharmila Tagore is all set to make her acting comeback with the project titled Gulmohar. She is gearing up for the release of Gulmohar, with her co-star Manoj Bajpayee. Ahead of the release of Gulmohar, we sat down with the veteran actor for a candid conversation, where she made a shocking confession.
Sharmila Tagore shocking confession
In an exclusive chat with us, Tagore opened up about how she battled the social stereotypes and prejudices during the early years of her acting career. The actress spoke at length about how many raised eyebrows when she decided to continue working in films after her marriage. Sharmila Tagore shared how she was asked if her husband Mansoor Ali Khan ‘allowed’ her to work post her marriage.
The Gulmohar actress told Bollywood Bubble, “Like, when my mother wasn’t allowed to go to a co-ed university, she had to do her MA privately. I have been asked ‘How did your husband allow you to work after you got married’. And my daughter, nobody asks her, my daughter-in-law. So, things are changing.”
She added, “So, every, we are going forward. So, society is sometimes slow to change. Once change becomes the norm, then the changes also escalates. And which is happening now world over. The male gaze is still there. The male domination is still there. And, India lives in many centuries.“
Tagore continued, “So, different pockets of India believes in different kind of process. So the process of Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata. So the bigger cities have a different perspective. So, all in all, we are in a better place.“
The actress also shared how she had a lot of support from her family. She said, “I had a lot of support from my family, from my husband who always gave me space, always supported me in everything. I didn’t have to explain myself. So, I had that kind of support. So, I’ve been very blessed in that.“
