Actor Shatrughan Sinha was one of the prolific actors back in the 80s and 90s. His catchphrase ‘Khamosh’ achieved iconic status and people still use this dialogue in a movie or any comedy show. Shatrughan Sinha who delivered several hits like Kaala Patthar, Naseeb, Kaalicharan, Dostana and many more has now graced Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, The Invincibles. In the recent episode, Sinha is heard talking about his filmy days, his admission to FTII, his first breakthrough movie and many more.
Apart from his professional life, the legendary actor even spoke about his personal life when he met his wife Poonam at a railway station for the first time. However, before taking the plunge, there was a rough patch when Sinha dumped Poonam after getting female attention and stardom. Recalling the time when he met her for the first time, Shatrughan told Arbaaz Khan that he spotted a ‘pretty girl’ on the train who was also in tears.
Shatrughan Sinha on his first meeting:
He said in Hindi, “It felt like a Godsend. We had no idea what was in store for us. I had no idea that I would study acting, struggle, then become a star, and remain in touch through all of this, until one day…” Arbaaz then stated that he got married to her after 14 years of meeting her for the first time. He also noted that they weren’t in touch for three years before they decided to tie the knot.
Shatrughan Sinha on ditching Poonam:
When asked Shatrughan about how the marriage happened after disconnecting from her for three years. He said, “Yes, we had stopped talking. It was my decision. It was thought at the time that there was something else happening in my life. People thought there was someone else in my life but I wouldn’t want to dwell on that. But it was my fault, I was looking for an exit strategy, and one day, I told her, ‘You’re too good for me, and I can’t be with you’.”
The Kaala Patthar actor continued, “It was my mistake. I got carried away, I became a victim of stardom. I used to think that no woman would ever be interested in me, and then when people started taking an interest, it was human nature to lose control. Maine talaaq de diya, in a way… We completely cut off all contact, but I would come to know that she was enquiring about me, and my well-being. She would ask my staff to take better care of me, to feed me properly.”
