EXCLUSIVE: Shatrughan Sinha regrets NOT doing iconic Sholay and Deewar: Ahankaar nahi, human error tha 

Actor Shatrughan Sinha becomes the latest guest to grace Arbaaz Khan’s talk show, The Invincibles where he takes us through his personal as well as professional journey. One of the instances was when he revealed that he was approached for a role in iconic movies like Deewar and Sholay. That’s right. During the candid chat with Arbaaz, Shatrughan Sinha revealed that he regrets not doing those two films which later ended up happening with megastar Amitabh Bachchan. 

Shatrughan Sinha regrets NOT doing Sholay and Deewar:

When the Dabangg actor asked Sinha if he has any regrets about not doing certain movies or professionally, the Kaala Patthar actor then said, “Aapki pijatji (Salim Khan) ki likhi hui film, Sholay, aisa nahi koi karan se ya ahankaar se nahi, human error tha. Aur ek film thi, Deewar jo six mahine se mere pass thi. Hamare jo producer the, unse koi baat nahi bani hogi, wo picture fir Yash ji ke pass chali gayi aur fir Amitabh ne ki. Ussi bahane hamare dost ko badiya platform mila Sholay se ya Deewar se. Hame uske liye khushi bhi hai lekin regret bhi hai ki hota tha toh acha hota tha.”

(A film written by your father (Salim Khan) Sholay. There was no such reason neither there was any ego, it was a simple human error. There was another movie titled Deewar which was with me for 6 months. However, due to some reasons with the producer, the film then went to Yash Raj Chopra who made the film with Amitabh Bachchan. Nevertheless, due to this reason at least my friend got a huge platform through Sholay and Deewar. I’m very happy for him but also regret that it would have been good if I had done the movie.)

Both Deewar and Sholay turned out to be the most successful films of that era. Along with Shashi Kapoor and Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan’s career was also boosted. People loved him and his performance, moreover, his dialogues are still being used by fans as the movies achieved cult status.

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Shatrughan Sinha also revealed that many didn’t want him to do Kaala Patthar but Salim Khan insisted he should do this movie. He said that this film will be a game changer for you. Well, the rest was history as Kaala Patthar was one of the blockbuster films of that time.
