Neha Sharma and Shruti Seth are basking in the love and praise for their recent series 36 Days. The leading ladies of the series sat down with Bollywood Bubble for the exclusive interview along with the director Vishal Furia. When quizzed why actresses prefer rom-coms over thrillers, she had an interesting point to put forward. Shruti Seth an Neha Sharma both gave in their bit into this topic.
Shruti Seth about choosing thrillers as a genre to work in
The Shararat actress said, “I think for any actor male or female, the more layered your character is, the more interesting it is. And, I also think thrillers as genres just lends itself to that. The idea of intrigue and suspense will only happen if characters are not stuck in black or white and they have to be in the space or grey so that it constantly keeps the audience guessing. Any actor who enjoys the process of performing will very naturally want to sink their teeth into a part that allows them to work with so many transitions that a character goes through.“
“So I don’t think if there’s ever been any conscious decision that female actors have taken to not want to be in thrillers. But, if that was the case then i wouldn’t say it’s because of their choice it’s because of the opportunity. If I don’t get the opportunity to play such characters, it’s not like we can make our own material. So, we are always at the mercy of who sees us in that particular part,” she continued.
She further shared that Neha had mentioned in another interview that people often tell her she doesn’t look like someone who would fit into this genre. She says which is a significant assumption about an actor’s abilities. As actors, they have the versatility to play any role. And, it requires a skilled director to challenge typical perceptions and cast against the norm. The idea is that because Neha doesn’t look like the usual fit for a role, casting her could make it even more compelling. Acting in thrillers is a delight for those who love the craft and the performance.
Neha Sharma adds up to it
Sharma also opened up on the same saying, “Adding to that I feel like thrillers have always been loved by people. Like, 100 days was laid when and it is one thriller that everybody loves. It is a genre that people have been interested in and they want to watch thrillers and people want to be a part of it because that’s one genre that keeps you hooked. It isn’t like people don’t want to do thrillers maybe they are far and few because there are rom-coms that people want to enjoy more, because it has a happy ending which everybody wants. For actors it is an interesting genre to be a part of, so we are excited.”
