EXCLUSIVE: Sooraj Barjatya shares an interesting fact about his debut show Bada Naam Karega; says, “Hume Hum Saath Saath Hai, Vivaah wali audience ko OTT pe lana hai”

Sooraj Barjatya is a renowned Indian filmmaker known for his timeless family dramas that celebrate love, tradition, and strong moral values. As the driving force behind Rajshri Productions, he has directed some of Bollywood’s most beloved films, including Maine Pyar Kiya, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, and Hum Saath Saath Hain. Expanding his storytelling to the digital space, Barjatya recently made his OTT debut as a showrunner with Bada Naam Karenge, a web series on SonyLIV that explores modern relationships while staying rooted in traditional values. With a career spanning over three decades, he continues to evolve while maintaining his signature style of emotionally rich storytelling.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Sooraj Barjatya speaks about the genesis of his show Bada Naam Karega, he says, “Television ke dauur me toh hum aaye issliye kyuki uss samay laga tha ki, television ka sthar bohot badh chuka tha, much more than cinema aur lalach tha ki uss samay ki audience hamesha middle class rahi hai aur woh bhi ladies primarily, right from our first film Aarti, Dosti. Humari main audience rahi tha teachers, professors yeh sab toh humne dekha ladies zyda kaha toh TV par hai, toh fir hum TV kyu nahi banaye.”

He continued on the same, “Waha se shuruwaat hui aur jaha OTT ka sawal waha ulta hua, 2018 se soch rahe hai ki kuch kare, kahi kisi se milte toh bolte ‘Ready nahi hai Rajshri, family cheez ke liye’. But credit toh Sony Liv ko jata hai mujhe aage se Danish Ji ka phone aya, mujhe laga Sony TV ke liye bol rahe hai but nahi Sony Liv pe chahiye. Hume Hum Saath Saath Hai, Vivaah wali audience ko OTT pe lana hai. ‘Log alag alag rooms me dekhte hai, humko ek room me dikhana hai’, family viewing karni hai.”
