Actress and dancer Sudhaa Chandran is an inspiration and needs no introduction. The diva kickstarted her career when she was merely 16-years-old and has come a long way. Even at the age of 58, she continues to break societal taboos to stereotypes. The actress has lived life on her own terms and wears her heart on sleeve. The actress met with a harrowing accident at the age of 17 after which she uses prosthetic Jaipur foot. Well, bouncing back was not easy for her. In an exclusive chat with Bollywood Bubble, Sudhaa Chandran shared how people made negative remarks when she resumed dancing after the accident.

In Doree, Sudhaa Ji essays the role of Kailashi Devi who deems daughters as unworthy. Since the show revolves around discrimination against women, we asked the actress her thoughts on the subject. Recalling an incident when she was subjected to discrimination, the actress said, “When I started dancing, people said things like, ‘Why are you taking so much of efforts? Why are you pushing yourself so hard you? People also questioned, ‘Why are you torturing yourself and giving your parents sleepless nights?’ I was astonished. I was expecting people to come and tell me that, ‘Sudha give it a shot man you are a dancer. You need to come back.’ I mean there was a section of people who came and told me all this. And Thank God that I didn’t take their advice too seriously.”

Talking about how her father has always been her pillar of strength. The actress added, “My father always told me that ‘Do what you want, I will stand by you’. Even when I lost my leg it was my father who came. That was the time when I was a teenager and realised how important a father is to a daughter”.

About Sudhaa Chandran’s accident

At the age of 17, Sudha Chandran, a Bharatnatyam dancer, met with an accident and doctor had to amputate one of her legs. She regained mobility with the help of a prosthetic Jaipur foot. With an artificial leg, Sudha resumed her dancing and went on to perform in several countries.

For the unversed, Doree is set against the backdrop of Varanasi and focuses on evils in society like the abandonment of a girl child and the rights of a girl child. It shows the world through the eyes of a little girl named Doree. The show also stars Amar Upadhyay in pivotal role.
