EXCLUSIVE: The Trial actress Manasvi Mamgai reveals the FUN similarity between Kajol and Ajay Devgn

Miss India 2010 Manasvi Mamgai made her entry in the acting world with Ajay Devgn in the 2014 film Action Jackson. Nine years later, she made her OTT debut with Kajol in The Trial this month and she feels life has come a full circle.

Recently, the actress got into a conversation with Bollywood Bubble where she opened up on the similarities between Kajol and Ajay. She also revealed the stereotyping she had to face and her time in the US.

Having made her Bollywood debut with Ajay and her OTT debut with Kajol, Manasvi calls it her good fortune. Talking about their similarities, she says, “It’s like life coming full circle. Both of them are almost institutions and not just actors. The kind of professionalism they both show is remarkable. Having that kind of influence is quite fortunate for me. They both are also very approachable but both of them are also pranksters.”

Manasvi also revealed how Kajol used to tease her on the sets of The Trial. She shares, “I have this song with Ajay sir from Action Jackson, Gangster Baby, and whenever she had to call me, she would start singing ‘Gangster Baby’.”

The actress on facing stereotyping

Since Manasvi comes from a modeling background and has won Miss India, she admits to facing a lot of hurdles while transitioning to acting. She informs, “I am not gonna lie, sometimes you do get typecast, especially with the kind of looks I have. I do get typecast as a supermodel and like ‘isko to acting nahi aati hogi’. It’s a stereotype I have to work very hard to break. That’s why I choose my roles which are not conventional. It was a very bold role that I did in Action Jackson. People told me it will be a disaster for my career, and for a while it was. But I don’t like playing it safe.”

On her move to US…

The Trial is Manasvi’s second big project after Action Jackson. The nine years in between, she had been inactive in Bollywood. When asked about that, Manasvi revealed that she moved to the US to study acting and production. She shares, “Even though I haven’t appeared in any project in this while, it isn’t like I wasn’t doing anything. I have been in the US for last 6-7 years. There, I have been doing clerical advocacy, and I am associated with a big modelling agency. So, I have been busy.”

Elaborating further, the actress says, “For about 4-5 years, I wasn’t doing anything in entertainment. I was involved in more business side of things. In 2019, I moved to Los Angeles and currently I am producing a major movie in Hollywood. I do want to act and produce there and in India as well. In Hollywood, the time has not been quite right. But I am hoping things will get better.”

While currently Manasvi is travelling between the US and India, she plans to build a stronger base in the country now. She has hopes for a brighter future and having studied what goes on behind the lens, she wants to venture in that field too.
