Vivek Oberoi on playing age-appropriate roles
During the conversation, Vivek Oberoi shared how the age of an actor affects the roles of the person. Speaking of the same, he said, “I think three things make a difference. One is physically your age, are you age-appropriate? Puraane zamaane me hota tha 1950s and 60s me ki 50 saal ka banda hai aur wo college ka student play kar raha hai. 18-20 ki umar dikha raha hai, toh bahot funny lagta tha. You have to play age-appropriate roles, so it’s authentic. The second thing is me as an actor, I don’t do this as a naukri.”
He added, “God has given me enough, I have got businesses, I have got investments and have got a whole bunch of things going on in my life. But I do this as a passion. So, for me the personal question becomes, ‘yaar ye pehle kar chuka hu kya mai?’ or ‘ye ghis chuka hai kya?’ or ‘isko kar ke kitna samay ho gaya?’ or ‘Mai naya colour kya laa sakta hu isme?’ Because I don’t want to repeat myself. When I did Company, the next time people said ke now you do only action, so I did Saathiya which is a love story. When Saathiya became successful I did Masti which is a comedy.”
Vivek further stated, “So I keep trying to do different things, not just for my fans but even for myself as an actor. I want to feel growth. So, I think those elements will make a big difference in terms of my choices. Ke kuch alag karna hai as an actor, age-appropriate bhi karna hai. Toh ek maturity aati hai ek depth aati hai. Twenty years ago if I had to play a father of a child, then I would have to observe an experience. Today I have that experience, I feel that as a father. So it’s easier to express.”
Well, the candid chat did not just end here. Further in the chat, Vivek Oberoi also spoke about new-age journalism and why the actors are not keen on doing celebrity interviews.
