EXCLUSIVE: Vivek Oberoi says journalism has become more ‘editorial’: It has degraded the quality, even actors don’t trust

Vivek Oberoid is all set to star in Rohit Shetty’s copverse titled Indian Police Force. Quite after a long time, the audience will witness the actor on the screens and they are mighty excited for the series to begin streaming from 19th January. Ahead of the release, Vivek Oberoi sat with us for an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble.

During the candid chat, Vivek Oberoi commented on journalism and how it has transitioned. He also shared what journalism means today and why celebrities are no longer keen to do interviews.

Vivek Oberoi comments on new-age journalism

Vivek Oberoi took us through the time how journalism was back in the earlier days and how it has evolved today. The actor shares, “Even after years of success in your journey, you are committed, you are serious and committed. You do your research, your homework, you ask the right questions and you are innovative. If you have to meet 20 actors, you have to ask them 20 different kinds of questions. And also you ask questions that make you inquisitive and the questions that their fans might want to answer.”

He added, “The problem is that, I have seen in front of my eyes. I have seen great journalists, legends who are there from the time of my father interviewing me. There used to be a different process. There used to be trust. It wasn’t about sansani khes khabar. Then they used to be knowing you. They would spend time. It wasn’t transactional ke 15 minute hai aur peeche koi hath dikha hai wrap up ke liye. Wo tha hi nahi. They would come and spend time with us for hours, baate hoti thi family ki baate hoti thi. We knew them as persons as human beings.”

Vivek further stated, “Then came a time where everybody on the phone was a journalist. And all they wanted was to provoke you, create a headline, catch you off-guard, wanted a sound byte. How many times has it happened in press conferences where a journalist representing a news agency has asked a question regarding a film in which an actor has not been there. Koi homework karta hi nahi hai and that has degraded the quality of journalism. That’s why you see so many people who are not professional journalists, but journalists who are making their own reactions. Journalism has become more editorial now. Because of that even actors don’t trust.”
