Alia Bhatt leaves the internet swooning as she dons Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla’s Ajrakh saree at Joy Awards

Actor Alia Bhatt was bestowed with the Honorary Entertainment Makers Award at Joy Awards 2024 in Saudi Arabia last night. For the event, Alia Bhatt picked an Ajrakh saree from the collections of Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. She styled the saree by adding a blue cape that looked royal as she walked the red carpet of the award night. Keeping a tan look, the saree complimented her complex well.

Alia opted for soft waves, nude lip colour and gold earrings to complete her saree look. Alia Bhatt’s saree look has impressed the fashion police as well as the internet. While some are praising her for going desi at a foreign event, some are impressed with her style statement. What is Ajrakh saree?

Alia’s saree has block-printed cloth with a deep crimson and indigo blue base with symmetrical patterns and sparkling motifs. This is the kind of design that was a rage back during the Indus Valley civilization. Ajrakh printing is a traditional and ancient art form that depicts rich cultural history. The designs hail from Rajasthan and Gujarat but the designs are associated with the Muslim artisans. It is a heavy process that needs labour for block printing and dyeing with natural dyes to create intricate and vibrant patterns. However, the designers are reviving the age-old craft and we got to see a glimpse of it on Bhatt.
