The Met Gala 2024 is here, and it was nothing short of a garden blooming with different kinds of flowers. While the theme of this year’s charity dinner was ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ a good chunk of the attendees followed the dress code – ‘A Garden in Time,’ with perfection. The stars – who walked the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art to help raise money for the museum’s Costume Institute, included several Indian stars, including beauties such as Alia Bhatt, Isha Ambani, Natasha Poonawalla & more.

Alia Bhatt casts a spell in gorgeous Sabyasachi sari
Alia Bhatt was the prettiest flower in the garden that was the Met Gala 2024 carpet. To the fundraiser, Alia wore a gorgeous saree by designer Sabyasachi. The soft pastel green-coloured saree, complete with intricate floral embroidery patterns, beadwork and sparkling fringes along its entire length, featured a 30-foot trail also sporting similar floral threadwork. the saree took 163 artists over 1965 man-hours to create.
She paired the saree with a pretty sweetheart neckline blouse with a delicate bow detail at the back. Her jewellery included a bejewelled headband and matching heavy earrings. Soft makeup and an elevated hair bun featuring braids completed her look making her look like a princess.
Isha Ambani slays in a hand-embroidered couture sari gown
At the Met Gala 2024, Isha Ambani wore a bespoke hand-embroidered couture sari gown from Indian designer Rahul Mishra. Keeping in sync with this year’s dress code – The Garden of Time, Isha’s ensemble depicted nature’s glorious and bountiful lifecycle which took over 10,000 hours to complete. The look embraces sustainability by incorporating elements from Rahul’s past collections. It incorporated delicate samples of flowers, butterflies, and dragonflies meticulously integrated via distinct applique and embroidery techniques.
She completed her look with an exquisite Jade clutch crafted by Swadesh using the ancient Indian art forms of Nakashi and Miniature Painting. Her jewellery for the night included traditional lotus hand bracelets (Haathpochas), parrot earrings and a flower choker, all designed by Viren Bhagat.
Natasha Poonawalla makes heads turn on the red carpet
Natasha Poonawalla attended the Met Gala 2024 dinner dressed in custom Margiela designed by John Galliano. The Indian heiress styled her marble effect black and white ensemble with sky-high platform Christian Louboutins and a matching side hat. Her diamond necklace however is difficult to see owing to the high semi-sheer neckline of the figure-hugging dress.
Mona Patel debuts in styled
Mona Patel made a grand debut on the Met Gala carpet owing to the sizeable funds and donations she raised by auctioning one-of-a-kind couture and becoming a Forbes Next 1000 honoree. For the fashion Superbowl, Patel was styled by the one and only Law Roach. She looked drop-dead gorgeous in custom Iris Van Herpen couture. She slayed in a nude-coloured floor-grazing sculpted gown with a butterfly-shaped corset and scalloped train. It also features a few kinetic butterflies encircling her arms like opera gloves and fluttering their wings in slow motion.
Ambika Mod attends her first Met Gala
Actress Ambika Mod is the daughter of Indian immigrants. She is well-known thanks to her playing Shruti Acharya in the BBC drama series This Is Going to Hurt and Emma Morley in the Netflix miniseries One Day. The 28-year-old actress of Indian origin made her Met Gala debut with a monochrome black and white gown from Loewe. Ambika played it safe and failed to impress with her debut look.
Simone Ashley looks fierce
Simone Ashley is a well-known actress thanks to her portrayal of Kate in Bridgerton and Olivia Hanan in Sex Education. The actress – born to first-generation Indian Tamil parents, looked fierce in a cutout navy blue dress by designer Prabal Gurung. Despite a plunging neckline, Simone looked elegant as she posed for the paparazzi.
Sabyasachi Mukherjee wins hearts
Aside from these Indian beauties, ace designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee also attended the Met Gala 2024. To the biggest fashion event of the year, the designer wore an embroidered cotton duster coat from his brand’s Resort 2024 collection over a white shirt and cream formal pants. He accessorised the look with tourmalines, pearls, emeralds and diamonds from Sabyasachi High Jewellery and brown formal shoes.
The Met Gala 2024 was a star-studded affair and saw several A-listers in attendance. This included the evening’s co-chairs Jennifer Lopez, Zendaya, Chris Hemsworth and Bad Bunny as well as Shakira, Gigi Hadid, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner, Kendall Jenner and many more.
