Shah Rukh Khan did not like the title ‘Main Hoon Na’
You will be shocked to know that Shah Rukh Khan did not like the title 'Main Hoon Na', initially. He thought it sounded incomplete. But, he was all for it after he heard the title track for the first time.
Shah Rukh Khan hated dancing on ‘Tumse Milke’
Remember the song 'Tumse Milke'? The one where the metamorphosis of Amrita Rao takes place? The qawwali track had some awesome dance steps and the whole cast did a fabulous job in adapting the same. But what will your reaction be if we tell you that Shah Rukh absolutely hated his dance steps? Shocked, right? Eventually, Farah managed to convince him and the rest is history.
Suniel Shetty was not the first choice for Raghavan
Can you imagine someone better than Suniel Shetty to play Raghavan? We cannot. However, apparently, Suniel was not the first choice for the role, Naseeruddin Shah was, who refused the same citing date issues which he had already committed for 'The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. Even Kamal Haasan and Nana Patekar were approached, but as fate would have it, the role fell into the lap of Suniel Shetty, and the man mesmerised us with his evil avatar. Naseeruddin Shah, however, went on to play a short yet powerful role of Brigadier Shekhar Sharma, Shah Rukh Khan's father.
Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao were not the first choice!
Irrespective of how much you adore their chemistry in the movie, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao were not the first choices for the roles of Lucky and Sanjana, respectively. For the role of Lucky aka Laxman Prasad, Farah had considered actors Hrithik Roshan, Sohail Khan, and even Farhan Akhtar. For the role of Sanjana, Farah had approached Ayesha Takia, but that did not work out. Finally, Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao were brought on board, and we loved them both. They were even nominated for Filmfares for the Best Supporting Actors, both male and female, that year.
Farah Khan threatened Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh Khan is an out and out romance icon, and so, it had been quite a while since he had done an action film. In fact, the last time he packed a punch was in the year 2001, in the movie 'One Two Ka Four'. It was after three years that the actor was returning to perform some high-octane action sequences, with 'Main Hoon Na'. Reportedly, during the shooting of one such scenes, Farah threatened Shah Rukh. What happened was that Farah caught SRK trying to walk on the wall, all by himself. She knew about his back injury and threatened him that if he repeated the same, she would tell Gauri, his wife. Call it fear of the wife, or that of a friend-cum-director, Shah Rukh refrained from trying any such thing on the sets again.
The case of ‘borrowed clothes’ for Zayed Khan and Amrita Rao
When ‘Main Hoon Na’ had completed its 10 years of release, filmmaker Farah Khan had posted a series of tweets, reminiscing the time. On the occasion, she recalled an incident wherein the truck of costumes had not arrived on time, and they had to borrow the clothes for Zayed and Amrita, from dancers.
Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan are a winning combination, since ages. If you don’t believe us, one look at chartbusters like ‘Ruk Ja O Dil Deewane’, ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’, and more, and you will have no doubts. And mind you, this was the actor-choreographer jodi that brought about this magic then. So, when the two came back as the jodi of actor-director, magic had to happen. The day was Apr 30, 2004, and the release was ‘Main Hoon Na’, where, under the skillful craftsmanship of Farah Khan as a debut director, Shah Rukh Khan captured our hearts yet again, as Major Ram Prasad Sharma.
