‘Fitoor’
Aditya Roy Kapur and Katrina Kaif’s chemistry in ‘Fitoor’ seemed to be worth a wait, but as soon as the film made it to the theatres, it proved to be a disappointment. The star power too could not save this film from failing at the box office and the movie could only make Rs 16.85 crore in the Indian market.
‘Ki & Ka’
Kareena Kapoor and Arjun Kapoor gave us a new take on the relationship shared between a husband and wife in their coming of age film ‘Ki & Ka’. The makers did take a risk and to their luck, the audience accepted the film with open arms. The total net collection of film stands at Rs 51.68 crore which is quite a fair deal.
‘Rock On 2’
The sequel to Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Rock On!!’ was highly awaited by the fans, but to our disappointment, the sequel was not as good as the original. To add to it, demonetisation wreaked havoc to this film and the film tanked miserably at the box office. In Indian market, the movie could only make Rs 10.03 crore, which is like far away from expectations.
‘A Flying Jatt’
Jacqueline Fernandez and Tiger Shroff-starrer ‘A Flying Jatt’ was a total surprise. The idea of having an Indian superhero itself is quite dicey and we did not expect that the film will mint big money at the box office. But fortunately it did! ‘A Flying Jatt’ collected Rs 30.75 crore approximately, which is a decent number.
‘Mohenjo Daro’
Hrithik Roshan and Ashutosh Gowariker teamed up once again for their period drama ‘Mohenjo Daro’. The handsome hunk took almost 2 years to work on this project, but all his efforts went in vain when the film failed at the box office. In 10 days, ‘Mohenjo Daro’ minted only Rs 53. 66 crore nett. Too low for such a high budget film.
‘Baar Baar Dekho’
With the hype that was created around Katrina Kaif and Sidharth Malhotra-starrer ‘Baar Baar Dekho’, it made us believe that the film would go on to become a box office hit. But unfortunately, the film fared miserably at the box office. It managed to collect only Rs 30.62 crore nett which is not a decent number.
‘PINK’
Though the film had a powerful story, a strong message and stardom of Amitabh Bachchan, we did not expect it to be such a hit. With praises pouring in from all corners, ‘PINK’ is one of the most appreciated films of this year. But when it started, the film had an extremely low opening. The positive word of mouth helped this film reach great heights and mint approximately Rs 65.52 crore at the box office.
Even though we saw some spectacular films at the box office this year, not every film did wonders when it came to cash registers. Numbers at box office were a complete surprise, as nothing that we anticipated turned out to be true. The film’s that we thought would perform well at the box office proved to be a complete failure, while the movies that received the not-so-good reviews from the critics, did well at the box office.
A look at Bollywood films that surprised us with their box office collection.
