Hrithik Roshan (Kaabil)
A superb success at box office, Sanjay Gupta's 'Kaabil' featured Hrithik as a blind dubbing artiste. The film received warm response from critics as well.
Shahid Kapoor (Rangoon)
Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Rangoon',although a commercisl failure, was a picturesque experience to witness. Shahid, who played an INA militant, was at his sheer best. The intimate sequences that he performed with co-star Kangana Ranaut are probably the most beautiful ones done this year.
Ranbir Kapoor (Jagga Jasoos)
The film released after being stuck for three odd years. But 'Jagga Jasoos', story of a boy in search of his lost father, was every bit worth. Anurag Basu brings best from Ranbir, and 'Barfi' wasm proof.
Rajkummar Rao (Trapped)
Rajkummar Rao is a method actor. After 'Trapped', this becomes more than just a saying. For the film which is arguably India's first survival drama, Rao was on a carrot and black coffee diet for three weeks, to achieve the right appearance. Need we say anything more? His performance had us mesmerised for days.
Irrfan Khan (Hindi Medium)
At a time when languages, from being a medium have communication, have become symbols of one's social strata, 'Hindi Medium' carries an extremely relevant message. If you ever went to a vernacular medium school, you probably related to it. And as usual, Irrfan Khan stole the show.
Akshay Kumar (Toilet- Ek Prem Katha)
'Toilet- Ek Prem Katha' received mixed response from the critics. Irrespestive of whether one likes or dislikes it, one has to admit that the film touches open a much prevelant problem of open sanitation. Akshay Kumar's performance as the lead actor was hugely appreciated.
Pankaj Tripathi (Newton)
This man has had seven releases in a year. Whether or not the concerned film is well-received, Pankaj Tripathi NEVER fails to show his brilliance. From a strong film like 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' to a dud like 'Munna Michael', from a strong screen presence to a mere some minutes, any duratior or any character is enough for Tripathi to show us his mettle. Surely one of the most underrated actors of our time.
2017 was pretty much a let-down for Bollywood films, at least in terms of box office collection. This was the year that showed us, superstar value doesn’t save a film’s commercial fate anymore. At the same time, we once more learnt, ‘Content is King’. (Also Read: Top 10 Bollywood chartbusters that rocked India’s Google search-list!)
