5 Bollywood stars who have their ancestral homes in Pakistan

Dilip Kumar

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar was born as Mohammad Yusuf Khan in the Qissa Khawani Bazaar area of Peshawar, British India (modern-day Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan). The actor spent his initial days there before moving to India. Interestingly Pakistan's former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had issued an order in 2013 to restore Dilip Kumar's house, which was later even declared as a heritage monument.

Dev Anand

Dev Anand was born as Dharam Dev Anand in Shakargarh tehsil of the Gurdaspur district in Punjab(British India). Later, the actor completed his BA degree from the Government College in Lahore.

Rajesh Khanna

Rajesh Khanna was born as Jatin Khanna in Amritsar, Punjab. Khanna's father Lala Hiranand worked as the headmaster in Burewala, Pakistan. Khanna was adopted and raised by relatives of his parents who moved to Bombay from Lahore in 1935.

Shah Rukh Khan

SRK's grandfather Jan Muhammad hails from Afghanistan, while his father Meer Taj Mohammed Khan was an activist in Peshawar. Meer moved to New Delhi in 1948, after Partition of India. Shah Rukh's paternal house is still there in Peshawar.

Sanjay Dutt

Sanjay's father Sunil Dutt was born in Khurd village of Jhelum district, Punjab Province which is now in Pakistan. During the partition of India, Dutt's family resettled in Yamuna Nagar, Haryana. It is said that Dutt's Pakistan house is still there in a good condition. Till 2010, Khan's paternal family was apparently still living in Shah Wali Qataal area of Peshawar's Qissa Khawani Bazaar. After the partition, Khan's father moved to New Delhi in 1948.
