Pankaj Tripathi is all set to portray the role of Kanti Sharan Mudgal in his upcoming movie, OMG 2. The first thing that crossed my mind when I saw him in the trailer was, “OMG! He is just like my dad.” Especially, the moment in the trailer, when his son asks him not to embarrass him publicly. Although the movie primarily revolves around Pankaj delivering a socially relevant message with a dash of humour, another thing that stands out is the father-son connection.
The level of intensity with which it’s portrayed that a father can go to any extent for his child truly stands out. Prior to the release, let’s take a look at 5 things that prove Pankaj Tripathi as Kanti shows the qualities of every other father.
1) Leaves you to school everyday
If you were a school bus student, your parents would either leave you at the bus stop or you would go on your own. But, if your dad took you to school every day on his way to work, you had to be on time. Just like that, Kanti sends his son to a top-notch school and also drops him off every day. In the trailer, we spot him all ready on his scooty, waiting to drop his son off at school. This definitely proves what a doting father he is, but also oops! can’t miss school.

2) Always prays for your good
While Kanti’s son has fallen into a situation where he is shamed by people and bullied by friends, his father seeks help for him – but not just from anyone, rather from the feet of God. Isn’t it so relatable? We often see our parents praying for our well-being all the time. Most of the time, maybe we just get lucky because of that. And just like every father, Kanti also wants the best for his son.

3) Fight with you and for you
In the trailer, we get a glimpse that Kanti gets angry at his son for causing a situation in school. He points out that he has done a lot to get his son into a nice school. But, if we look at the underlying meaning, he wants the best education for his son. If he didn’t, he wouldn’t take a stand for his son and take the matter to court. He clearly stands up for his son.

4) Makes not-so-funny dad jokes & doesn’t understand the simplest of things
Dads have their own sets of jokes, and only they can understand and find them funny. Just like every other dad, Kanti can’t help but ask questions for which the answers are very simple. In a scene, when the judge asks him to stand and raise objections, Kanti asks, “What if I am already standing?” As the judge responds with “You can stand and object too,” he goes on to repeat the same. We know that it isn’t a joke, but dads can grasp the most complicated of matters and still fail to understand the simplest ones.

5) Knows how to talk logic and make his point
Pankaj Tripathi is delivering a terrific performance as Kanti. Even though we haven’t watched the movie yet, it shines through the trailer. It’s evident that Kanti is fighting a case of his own, even though he is not a lawyer, and he’s doing it solely for his son. This shows that as a father, he would go to any extent to prove his son right. Moreover, each and every point he makes is valid. His efforts in conducting research for the court case and delving into unfamiliar territories only highlight his profound love for his son.

While the above father-child bonding has got me more eager to watch OMG 2. also stars Akshay Kumar as the messenger of Lord Shiva. In addition, Yami Gautam plays the lawyer. The movie is releasing this weekend on 11 August 2023.
