Underrated performances!
It was in 2003 that Shahid Kapoor made his debut in Bollywood with the movie 'Ishq Vishk'. While, he earned a debut award for his performance, post that movie, his filmography has been more of a rollercoaster ride, with ups and downs coming his way. However, after all these years, today, the actor is one of the most sought after faces of the industry. Yet, he stays humble and continues to let his work do the talking. As much as he has been appreciated for performances in movies like 'Udta Punjab', 'Haider' and 'Kaminey', he hasn't completely earned appreciation for various other roles that actually extracted the maximum from him. Today, as he celebrates his birthday, we bring about some of his most underrated performances over the years.
Chup Chup Ke
In the year 2006, the actor did a comedy flick by Priyadarshan called 'Chup Chup Ke'. One could call it his first attempt at an out-and-out comic role and he nailed it completely. However, the movie didn't turn out to become a blockbuster and none really consider the role to be amongst his best ones.
Vivah
After making us laugh and cry with his character in 'Chup Chup Ke', the same year he made our hearts skip a beat with his marriage material kind of role in 'Vivah'. The Sooraj Barjatya movie turned out to be successful and Shahid-Amrita's pairing was appreciated. His silent yet effective portrayal of Prem was every woman's dream. Yet, we think his role was underrated to a major extent.
Jab We Met
Next year in 2007, 'Jab We Met' released and it became a major turning point in his career turning out to be hugely successful. His sweet and smart character of Aditya Kashyap was lauded, even though it was Kareena Kapoor Khan's Geet who earned the loudest cheers and awards. We think Shahid's understated and subtle performance was at par with Kareena's loud and bubbly character.
Mausam
In the year 2011, Shahid Kapoor took on the role of an army man in the movie 'Mausam'. Sadly, the movie tanked but Shahid's act of the man in uniform won accolades and appraise. Another underrated performance of the actor.
Rangoon
Last year, Shahid played a substantial character of Jemadar Nawab Malik, an INA soldier in disguise of an army man who was fighting in favour of the British. While, the movie had other talented performers like Kangana Ranaut and Saif Ali Khan, Shahid's performance can be counted as one of the finest. Sadly, the movie turned out to be a disaster and his performance faded away from the audience's memory.
Padmaavat
Finally, it is his latest screen outing 'Padmaavat' in which he played the historical character of Maharawal Ratan Singh, without which the list is incomplete. His screen time was lesser than that of Ranveer Singh's character of Alauddin Khilji, but he managed to shine through in his part. While, the maximum voots came for Ranveer's menacing act, Shahid's subtle and calm performance didn't go unnoticed.
