Ever since her singing video went viral, she has become the talk of the town. In the viral video Ranu Mondal can be seen singing Lata Mangeshkar’s iconic song, ‘Ek Pyar Ka Nagma Hai’. Her singing video has caught the attention of the nation and people have also started calling her as “Kolkata’s Lata Mangeshkar.”

Ranu’s full name is Ranu Mariah Mondal and she is also known as Ranu Bobby. She was born in Krishnanagar (West Bengal) and she spent most of her childhood days at her aunt’s house in Ranaghat and unfortunately she had lost her mother at an young age. From an early age she has a great interest in music and singing.

She got married to her neighbour Bablu Mondal at just the mere age of 19, and she also has a daughter, Sathi Roy.

As she became an overnight sensation, Ranu Mondal’s daughter came to meet her after decades of separation.

Ranu came to Mumbai with her husband to earn a living and did number of odd jobs. One of her jobs included singing in night clubs and from then onwards she was known as Ranu Bobby. Later, she had to quit the job as her husband did not approve her to sing in the night clubs.

After the sad demise of her husband, she got depressed and went back to home town Ranaghat. Mondal lived in poverty and started singing at the Ranaghat Railway station to earn a living. A 26-year-old engineer Atindra Chakraborty recorded her song when he spotted Mondal singing at the railway station. He later shared it on his Facebook account and the video was an instant hit, which went on to  garner millions of views overnight.

Ranu is one of the biggest fans of Bollywood singers such as Lata Mangeshkar and Mohammad Rafi. Recently, she appeared on the Television show, ‘Superstar Singer’. Not just that she has also recorded a song “Teri Meri Kahani” with singer Himesh Reshammiya for his upcoming movie “Happy Hardy And Heer”.  Apparently, she was paid a whopping amount of 6 to 7 lakhs rupees for the same. Some reports also suggest that Salman Khan has gifted her house in Mumbai of Rs 55 Lakhs. Not only that, Salman has also offered her a song in ‘Dabangg 3’ as per reports.
