‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’
Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer war drama is inspired by the actual events of the Indian Army's surgical strikes, which were carried out across the Line of Control. The movie made us feel a sense of pride for our army who are constantly protecting the borders and are not afraid to take over the terrorists in their own territory fearlessly.
‘Sui Dhaaga’
Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma came together to play the role of Mauji and Mamata. They are a small town couple with big dreams in the social drama. The film is an outstanding story on how the two overcome hurdles to make their dreams come true. The makers have aptly promoted the Make in India initiative.
‘Newton’
The Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Anjali Patil starrer brought forth the plight of the voting system in the country. 'Newton', the titular role played aptly by Rajkummar, tries his best to conduct free and fair voting despite the apathy of security forces and the looming fear of guerrilla attacks by communist rebels.
‘Parmanu’
The John Abraham and Diana Penty starrer is based on the Pokhran II nuclear blasts carried out covertly by India under the leadership of the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government and Dr APJ Abdul Kalam (who was the scientific advisor for the project). It was called Operation Shakti and five nuclear explosions took place -- three on May 11, 1998 and two on May 13. This test established the country as a new superpower not to be taken lightly.
‘Airlift’
The Akshay Kumar starrer is a political thriller based on true events. It tells the story of Ranjit Katyal (Akshay Kumar), a Kuwait-based businessman, as he carries out the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Invasion of Kuwait by Saddam Hussein's Iraq. The Raja Krishna Menon directorial brought home the message to all the Indians spread across the globe that your country is always within reach in times of need.
