Khichdi
This show came when we were tired of Saas-Bahu sagas. This show had the right ingredients to entertain the audience in a happy way. All the characters were widely popular. The dialogues were the highlighting point in Khichdi.
Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai
This was one of the best Indian sitcoms aired in 2005. The sweet exchange between Roshesh and Indravadan, Maya and Monisha was rib tickling. Without even a second thought people watch them again. Over the years it has become a cult classic and is widely regarded as being one of the greatest Indian comedy shows of all time.
Idhar Udhar
Idhar Udhar is a Hindi sitcom which first aired on Doordarshan in 1985. It was directed by Anand Mahendroo and produced by Shobha Doctor. It starred real-life sisters Ratna Pathak and Supriya Pathak. Its first season was taken off the air after 12 episodes. Anand Mahendroo launched a sequel with the original star cast of both Pathak sisters and Liliput, along with Bhavana Balsavar. Idhar Udhar had contemporaries such as Buniyaad, Hum Log, Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi and Tara, all of which were ahead of their time.
Dekh Bhai Dekh
Another classic sitcom was one of those shows for which people rescheduled their work during the show time. Three generations of the Diwan family live together in their ancestral house in Mumbai suburbs. They often find themselves in hilarious situations as they face relationship and business troubles. The cast of show was unique where we could see actors like Navin Nishchol to Shekhar Suman to Amar Upadhayay.
Indian television shows have a long history and they have come a long way from where they had started in terms of content and direction. The era of soap operas started in 1984 and has gradually managed to create a loyal audience in the country. After the historical reunion of FRIENDS which will go on air soon on Zee5, let’s find out the Indian sitcoms which we would like to see again. Maybe the old version or the new ones with a twist :
