Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan love story: From first meeting to welcoming daughter Aaradhya Bachchan

April 20 is a special day for Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan as it is the day they got married in 2007. The duo has been giving couple goals ever since they got together. They look perfectly made for each other and on Thursday, the couple celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary.

The first meeting…

Abhishek and Aishwarya first appeared together in the 2000 film Dhai Akshar Prem Ke. It was during the first photoshoot for the film only in 1999 that the couple met for the first time. They instantly connected and became friends. In an earlier interview, Abhishek had opened up on this meeting. He had said, “It was our first film together, and I expected a diva. Instead, she was disarmingly wonderful.” That meeting gave rise to a beautiful friendship.

The start of the romance…

After Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, the duo reunited for the 2003 film Kuch Naa Kaho. But their romance started on the sets of their 2006 film Umrao Jaan. Even Abhishek had confirmed that. It was around the same time that they were also shooting for Dhoom 2 and the feelings just got stronger. Abhishek had once said in an interview, “The universe conspired to bring us together.” Agreed completely!

A dreamy proposal

The romance had started and was going strong, but it all got serious when Abhishek decided to propose to Aishwarya. It was during a film’s shoot in New York that the actor decided on a whim that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Aishwarya. He had opened up about it on Oprah Winfrey’s show. He told, “I was filming in New York for a movie, and I used to stand on my balcony of my hotel room and wish that one day wouldn’t it be nice if I was together with [Aishwarya], married? So I took her to the very same balcony, and I asked her to marry me.”

A grand wedding…

As Aishwarya said yes to the proposal, preparations for a grand and dreamy wedding began soon after. On January 14, 2007, the couple got engaged and the wedding took place on April 20, 2007. The intimate wedding happened in both North Indian and Bengali customs. It indeed became the wedding of the year with people wanting to see every detail about it. And this was before the era of social media. Aishwarya stunned in a gold saree while Abhishek looked like a king in his gold sherwani. And that day marked the beginning of forever.

Welcoming a new member in the family…

Aishwarya and Abhishek became a supercouple after their marriage. They were very happy with each other and it reflected in their public appearances. But that happiness just increased manifolds when the couple got to experience parenthood. On November 16, 2011, Aishwarya gave birth to their daughter Aaradhya Bachchan and they entered this new phase of life.
