Akshay Kumar is hands-down one of the most-sought-after actors we have in Bollywood. Over the years, Akshay has established himself as a bankable star. When his contemporaries are signing 1 or 2 films in a year, Akshay has left them all behind and almost created a record by churning out a maximum number of a film in a year. No doubt, he is the fourth highest-paid celebrity in this world.
Akshay’s discipline and love for fitness have kept him ahead of his peers. The actor is a hit machine and has been constantly delivering back-to-back blockbuster films. On the occasion of his birthday, here take a look at his eight superhit films that have entered the coveted 100 crore club.
8 films of Khiladi Kumar that entered the 100 crore club
‘Mission Mangal’
This recently released film was liked by the critics and the audience alike. Also starring Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Kirti Kulhari, Nithya Menen and Sharman Joshi, this space drama was an ode to the efforts of ISRO scientists for the successful Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). The film entered the 100 crore club within a week of its release. It is now set to enter the 200 crore club.
‘2.0’
Released last year, this science-fiction film had Akshay Kumar playing the role of an antagonist. Very few superstars agree to play a negative role, however, Akki is an exception. As far as the script has the potential and the paycheque is good, Akshay never refuses any kind of film. The Hindi version of 2.0 became the fifth-highest Hindi grosser of 2018. The film’s Hindi version has earned more than 260 crores overall.
‘Gold’
This Reema Kagti directed sports drama that released last year saw Akshay playing the lead role. The film mostly earned positive reviews from the critics, and the audience loved it for the right dose of patriotism and entertainment. The film overall collected around Rs. 104.72 crores approx.
‘Pad Man’
This comedy-drama helmed (based on a real story) by R Balki, is another memorable from Akshay’s filmography as it recently won the National Award for the Best Film on Other Social Issues. This tenth highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2018, minted around Rs. 104.9 crores approx at the Indian box-office.
‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’
Akshay has an inclination towards making either social drama, patriotic or mindless comedies. This is yet another social drama that Akshay starred in the recent past. Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, the film earned around Rs. 132 crores approx at the domestic box office.
‘Rustom’
This is yet another super special film for Khiladi Kumar as he bagged the National Award for his performance in this crime-thriller. The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and it also stars Ileana D’Cruz and Esha Gupta in a pivotal role. It minted around Rs 127.49 crores approx at the box office.
‘Housefull 3’
The mindless comedy caper starred Akshay alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon. This Sajid Khan directorial that released in 2016, earned Rs. 109.14 crore approx at the domestic box-office.
‘Holiday’
Akshay starred alongside Sonakshi Sinha and Freddy Daruwala in this yet another crime-drama. This AR Murugadoss directorial raked Rs 112.45 crore approx at the box office. Akshay certainly pulls the crowd to the theatres and that’s the reason why every second director is eager to work with him. After all, a box-office success does matter to every superstar at the end of the day.
We wish the poster boy for nationalism a very happy birthday.
