Veteran actor Prem Chopra is the latest victim of death hoaxes as this morning he heard reports of him passing away from his friends. Reacting strongly to them, the actor told ETimes, “This is sadism, what else! Somebody is deriving sadistic pleasure in wrongly informing people that I am no more. But here I am, talking to you, absolutely hale and hearty.”

Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bachchan has been a victim of death rumours and it happened when a blog post said that the megastar had died in a car crash in the United States. The report also gave details of his supposed funeral, making his fans worried. However, the actor chose not to respond to any of it and eventually the truth of it all came out.

Dharmendra
Earlier this year, a Facebook page named Siasat Bhadod Ki shared a post on June 19, writing, “Rip#Dharmendra, the son of Punjab have said goodbye to this mortal world, May he find peace at Waheguru’s feet.” The reports obviously turned out to be false and reportedly even his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol denied those stories.

Farida Jalal
In 2017, some sudden reports suggested that veteran actress Farida Jalal had passed away. However, she gave a stern reply to those reports by quoting to DNA, “I am hale and hearty. I don’t know where these baseless rumours are coming from. Initially, I laughed, but from last 30 mins my phone has been constantly ringing and everybody is asking the same question. It’s a bit irritating, I wonder why people spread such rumours.”

Last year, amidst the second wave of Covid, there were reports that did rounds of singer-actor Lucky Ali passing away, although soon after, Nafisa Ali clarified those rumours saying she had spoken to him. Later, even Ali himself posted on his Instagram stories, clarifying any doubts. He wrote, “Hi everyone just addressing the rumours. I’m alive and well and resting in peace at home haha. Hope you all are staying in and staying safe. May God protect us all during this devastating time.”

Even the Badshah Shah Rukh Khan hasn’t been spared of these false reports. In 2017, there were stories about him dying in a plane crash. While his fans were sent into a shock after hearing the news, the actor showed his signature sense of humour in his response as he tweeted, “TGIF! Survived the week in spite of a plane crash, fatal accident on sets and yet another title of Imtiaz Ali film!”

The young generation of actors has also fallen prey to such reports as a website reported that the actor died in a snow board accident while he was holidaying with friends and family in Switzerland. The OG Indian superhero, Shaktimaan actor Mukesh Khanna was once a victim to death rumours too. It happened to him last year and he gave a stern reply to those reports on social media saying, “I am here to inform you all that I am perfectly alright. I am very well. I am here to refute the rumours, I have been asked to refute them and that is what I want to do. I also wish to condemn those who spread such rumours. This is a problem with social media.”

In 2015, Shakti Kapoor woke up one day to tens of concerned calls from his friends and family checking up on him to see if he was alive. A Whatsapp forward had said that the actor had died in a car crash on his way to Khandala, which worried his known ones. However, the actor spoke to Mumbai Mirror clarifying those reports saying, “I assured them I’m fine but the calls don’t stop. I am tired of telling people that I’m not dead.”
