Animal to Dunki: Bollywood heads for a blockbuster end to 2023 with big movies releasing in December

The year 2023 has been quite spectacular for the Indian film industry. Be it the box office or the digital screen, the year has witnessed many blockbusters and success stories. It all started with Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan and the most recent success has been Salman Khan starrer Tiger 3. As we enter the last month of the year, Bollywood is gearing up for a deadly end as well with many big movies releasing in December. Here’s a look at them:

Bollywood movies releasing in December 2023

Animal- December 1

Ranbir Kapoor and Anil Kapoor are starting the last month of 2023 with a bang. Telling an intense father-son story full of grotesque violence and intensity, Sandeep Reddy Vanga promises his darkest film till date with Animal. The film also features Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol and Triptii Dimri. It releases theatrically on December 1, 2023.

Sam Bahadur- December 1

Clashing with Animal, Vicky Kaushal also arrives on December 1 with the biopic Sam Bahadur. Based on the life of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, the film sees Vicky imbibing the titular character to perfection. It also features Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra. Sam Bahadur is directed by Meghna Gulzar, marking her reunion with Vicky post Raazi.

The Archies- December 7

Zoya Akhtar brings alive the world of Riverdale from Archie comics through an Indian setting in her musical, The Archies. The film stars 7 fresh new faces, including debutantes Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor, Vedang Raina, Dot, Yuvraj Menda and Mihir Ahuja. It will have a direct-to-OTT release on Netflix on December 7, 2023.

Joram- December 8

Manoj Bajpayee leads this gritty survival drama slated for a December 8 release. It sees the actor as a father with his daughter, fleeing from a system that wants to see them crushed at any cost. The film premiered at the recent IFFI 2023 and garnered immense praise.

Kadak Singh- December 8

Pankaj Tripathi and Sanjana Sanghi star as father and daughter in this gripping thriller. The film tells the story of an officer trying to solve a chit-fund scam case after being diagnosed with retrograde amnesia. Kadak Singh will have a direct-to-OTT release on Zee 5 and the film starts streaming from December 8. It also had its premiere at IFFI 2023 and was appreciated.

Dunki- December 21

After giving two magnanimous successes with Pathaan and Jawan this year, SRK is in no mood to slow down. He will close the year in style as well as he teams up with Rajkumar Hirani for the first time in Dunki. The film is based on an illegal immigration technique named Donkey Flight. It also features Taapsee Pannu and Vicky Kaushal, and will release theatrically on December 21.

Salaar- December 22

Prabhas and Prashanth Neel are coming with their action extravaganza Salaar: Part 1- Ceasefire this Christmas. The film, also starring Shruti Haasan, will release just a day after Dunki and will mark one of the biggest clashes of the year. With the stardom of Prabhas and the reputation of KGF behind Prashanth, it promises a deadly combo.

Kho Gaye Hum Kahan- December 26

Bollywood will close the year with the buddy film Kho Gaye Hum Kahan starring Ananya Panday, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Adarsh Gourav. The film is set during the COVID lockdown and tells a charming tale of friendship. It will have a digital release too just a day after Christmas on December 26, 2023.
