Sridevi as Devki
‘MOM’ is versatile performer Sridevi’s 300th film, but certainly she spared no chance to surprise everyone with her tremendous acting in the film. The way she performed her character indeed proved that she is one of the best actresses we have in Bollywood. The scene when she comes to know that her daughter (played by Sajal Ali) has been raped gives you goosebumps, making you feel the character’s pain as a mother. Indeed, it is one of the best performances of 2017.
Vidya Balan as Sulochana/ Sulu and Begum Jaan
This year the fans of Vidya Balan were in for a treat. The talented performer delivered not one but two outstanding performances. The first one came with the role of Begum Jaan which was completely fierce and bad-ass. It was by far one of the toughest characters ever played by Vidya on screen. While, the second one that won hearts was her natural and heart touching performance in ‘Tumhari Sulu’. She was so beautiful and endearing as Sulu! Undoubtedly, only Vidya could've performed these diverse characters so perfectly.
Swara Bhasker as Anarkali
Indeed, the most underrated performance of the yearQ! As an intense performer, the actress never fails to surprise the audiences with her choices of roles. Swara Bhasker breathes life into Anarkali’s character that of a small-town erotic folk dancer. ‘Anaarkali of Aarah’ surely witnesses Swara simply outdoing herself as a performer and therefore finding a place in our hearts and the list of Best Actresses of 2017.
Zaira Wasim as Insia Malik
After delivering a National Award winning performance in ‘Dangal’, Zaira Wasim completely justified the title of her next film, becoming a true ‘superstar’ in the film ‘Secret Superstar’. She does full justice to the role, delivering an outstanding and heart touching performance. As she plays the role of a singer, her acting in the singing sequences looks extremely believable with her lip sync and guitar movements being spot on.
Kriti Sanon as Bitti Mishra
Indeed, the most surprising performance of the year. Kriti Sanon’s character Bitti Mishra was fantastic in ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’. Her acting shines throughout and she delivers arguably her best performance of the career (as of today). Like her character Bitti Mishra, we can easily bet on it saying “laga lo 100-100 ki” there wouldn't have been anyone better than Kriti Sanon to play this role so perfectly.
Kangana Ranaut as Miss Julia
Kangana Ranaut’s performance in ‘Rangoon’ certainly takes your breath away with those sharp glittering eyes while she whispers ‘Bloody Hell’. The actress delivered one of her career’s best performance (as of today) in the film. She looked damn beautiful, was brilliant with her expressions, her chemistry shines with both her co-stars Shahid Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan and surely her character Julia was the soul of ‘Rangoon’.
Alia Bhatt as Vaidehi Trivedi
Alia Bhatt is one performer in Bollywood who needs no further praise for her skills. ‘Badrinath Ki Dulhania’ is a well-made family entertainer with a social message delivered through brilliant performances and strong story. Alia’s character Vaidehi instantly connects with with the audience, thanks to her innocence. She was one of the prime reasons to watch this film.
Bhumi Pednekar as Sugandha
Bhumi Pednekar is a promising actress and with her brilliant performance in ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’, she surely proves this again. If given a role with content she can manage to deliver a brilliant performance effortlessly. Her chemistry with co-star Ayushmann Khurrana shines throughout and certainly recreates the same magic like their first film together, ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’.
Katrina Kaif as Zoya
With Katrina Kaif’s performance in ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’, we can surely say this that the year 2017 came to an end with a bang. Her character Zoya was nothing less than a big surprise kept in store for everyone. The way the actress performed the daredevil fight sequences with finesse, she was on par with her co-star Salman Khan. She is impressive throughout the film and leaves a mark with her good acting in this spy action thriller.
When it comes to films released in the year 2017, the female characters played a crucial role in all the films. Every performance and character carried a distinctive quality of its own. It was quite refreshing to witness some powerful performances that surely left us as enthralled. Indeed, the performances of the leading actresses made them rule as ‘Content Queens’.
