‘Sultan’ (2016)
This year, Salman Khan impressed us with a never-seen-before role of a wrestler. At the age of 50, the man was actually fighting it out in akhadas with fellow wrestlers. Nobody ever expected to see Salman in a role where the female lead's character also gains equal mileage as the male lead's. Salman Khan's acting skills also received a thumbs up and his Haryanwi accent earned him many more fans.
‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2014)
Yet again, Salman worked with Kabir Khan but this time under his own banner of Salman Khan Films. Salman's honest portrayal of Bajrangi bagged him appraises and the movie's theme of dealing with Indo-Pak relations in a friendly manner earned him many more fans. This movie was also loved by non-Salman Khan fans and his following only increased with the movie.
‘Ek Tha Tiger’ (2012)
This movie entered the Rs 100 crore club in just 5 days. This was the first time that Salman was working with YRF and with director Kabir Khan. But, the movie's commercial success earned him a new tag 'Tiger'. He essayed the role of an Indian spy with complete conviction and his sweet chemistry with Katrina Kaif was also loved by his fans.
‘Dabangg’ (2010)
'Dabangg' saw Salman in the role of a lovable cop who is quite an entertainment, but also very Dabangg in his ways of handling cases. His role of Chulbul Pandey was easily one of the most adored cops of all times and the movie's massive success at the box office also led the makers to helm a sequel, 'Dabangg 2', which was equally amazing.
‘Tere Naam’ (2003)
Nobody would have expected Salman to portray a sensitive role like the one he did in 'Tere Naam'. He played the role of Radhe Mohan, a man who loses his mind after falling madly in love with a girl. The movie met with a tragic end and was very emotional but Salman Khan's senstive portrayal of Radhe Mohan surely connected with the masses and the songs were a hit at the box office.
‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ (1999)
'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' was one of the best movies of the year and Salman Khan's palpable chemistry with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was indeed fabulous. Salman Khan's emotional and romantic character of Sameer in the movie was easily a lovable character and we so loved him in the movie.
‘Hum Aapke Hain Koun’ (1994)
This family saga saw Salman once again in the role of a lovable character Prem and his cute chemistry with Madhuri Dixit was one of the highlights of the movie. Also, the songs of the movie were a hit among the masses and the movie also won a National Award for most popular film. Salman essayed the role of an ideal dewar in the movie with great confidence.
‘Andaz Apna Apna’ (1994)
Though not a blockbuster, this movie deserves a mention because of the cult status it has achieved in the genre of comedy. Salman proved his versatility as an actor with this classic comedy of all times, 'Andaz Apna Apna'. Although, he wasn't the solo lead in the movie and had the company of Aamir Khan, Salman's comical Prem avatar in the movie was much-loved and this movie is still considered a cult comedy of all times.
‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ (1989)
'Maine Pyar Kiya' marked the debut of Salman Khan in films and it also marked the directorial debut of Sooraj Barjatya. This film gave Salman Khan the lover boy name 'Prem' and the name stuck by his side for many more films. The songs of the movie were a hit and a young Salman romancing Bhagyashree was indeed a sight to behold.
Superstar Salman Khan is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars of Bollywood and his massive fan following just keeps on increasing with each passing day. Today, he turns 51 and on this special occasion we remember some of his best performances in movies by far that prove he is the quintessential ‘Sultan’ of Bollywood.
