Bollywood actors who were accused of sexual abuse

Mahmood Farooqui

'Peepli Live’ co-director, Mahmood Farooqui, had a case registered against him for allegedly trying to rape an American Research Scholar visiting India. After the complainant filed a case against the director, he was taken into custody and based on her complaint, the accused has been arrested and sent to judicial custody. Mahmood Farooqui denied all the allegations by stating that he is being falsely implicated. He was convicted in the case in 2016 while his wife decided to move to High Court.

Vishal Thakkar

'Munna Bhai MBBS' actor Vishal Thakkar had been framed for allegedly sexually assaulting a television actress over a period of time. An actress had filed a complaint against him in Charkop Police Station stating, "We both are close friends and were also in a live-in relationship from last few months. Thakkar sexually assaulted me several times making false promises to marry me. However, I left his house after being unable to take the ordeal and insult he did on me increased." According to reports, Vishal Thakkar is has gone missing from January 1, 2016.

Nilesh Nirbhavane

Nilesh Nirbhavane, who featured as a back dancer in Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor’s ‘ABCD 2’, had been accused for gang-raping a teenager. Reports suggest that he along with three others used to rape a 14 –year-old mentally challenged in public toilets and some isolated areas of Ghatkopar. Reports further revealed that Nilesh admitted to committing this crime and has been charged with IPC sections 376D (gang rape), 377 (unnatural offences) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention), along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.

Inder Kumar

In the year 2014, Inder Kumar’s girlfriend filed a case against the star with the charges of sexual assault post which he had been arrested. Inder Kumar and his model-girlfriend were apparently in a live-in relationship and his girlfriend accused him of raping and beating her up out of rage. According to the reports, Inder had probably hit her with a beer bottle and kicked her out of anger post which she filed a case against him. He was booked under Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape), 342 (wrongful confinement), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 506-2 (criminal intimidation).

Madhur Bhandarkar

‘Fashion’ director Madhur Bhandarkar, was once charged with rape charges when a model named Preeti Jain claimed that the director had a physical relationship with the her in the wake of launching her in the film industry. In a statement issued then, Preeti had said, “We had sex 16 times and Madhur made promises of giving me a lead role in his films. However, he didn’t offer me a lead role in any of his movies. At times when I refused, he raped me.” This case reached the Supreme Court and in the year 2012 the apex court dismissed all the charges levied against him.

Aditya Pancholi

Aditya Pancholi once came under the media scanner when a case was filed against him for allegedly raping a minor. According to reports, Aditya, who was dating Pooja Bedi then, had convinced her maid for consensual sex on the pretext of offering a role in a Bollywood film. Reports suggested that the maid was a minor and hence it was termed as a rape. Pooja Bedi, in one of her interviews, claimed that this was the reason for her fallout with Aditya Pancholi.

Ankit Tiwari

Singer Ankit Tiwari, who rose to fame with his sensational song ‘Sun Raha Hai Na’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’, had been accused of falsely raping his girlfriend after promising her of marriage. According to reports, his 28-year-old girlfriend filed a case of raping her at several occasions between October 2012 and December 2013. Ankit had reportedly forced his girlfriend to consume alcohol and then forced her into a sexual assault. Post this, he had promised to marry her, but he failed to keep up with his promise citing that his family didn’t approve of his relationship with the model, stated reports.

Shiney Ahuja

In the year 2009, the ‘Gangster’ star Shiney Ahuja made it to headlines when he was arrested by the Oshiwara Police following an FIR filed by his maid. Ahuja’s maid claimed that the actor raped her when the two were alone at his residence and then kept her locked in the room for two hours. Ahuja was then arrested and punished with seven year imprisonment. Later, he was granted bail as the maid wavered from her statement and said that Shiney didn’t rape her and she charged him with false allegations.
