Bollywood is one place that can get you with its fast life and anxiety-inducing work culture. While the celebrities may follow a strict fitness routine, the ill-health may still slip through the cracks. There have been instances where celebrities have fallen ill to diseases such as cancer. But, they didn’t lose hope and decided to fight the disease head-on.
Today, we will talk about those celebrities who have battled cancer and came out stronger on the other side.
1. Sonali Bendre
Sonali left everyone shell-shocked when she took to Twitter, to announce that she is suffering from Metastatic Cancer. She took a sabbatical of over five months and went to the US for treatment. But, even in those days she kept her spirit high and continued to live life to fullest and inspired many people with her brave fight. Sonali finally defeated and came over cancer.

2. Rakesh Roshan
Hrithik Roshan’s father, Rakesh Roshan was diagnosed with early stage of squamous cell carcinoma, a type of throat cancer, in 2019. It was Hrithik, who took to social media to break the news of his father’s illness but with strong positive message. Hrithik shared a picture with his father before their workout and captioned it, “Asked my dad for a picture this morning. Knew he wouldn’t miss gym on surgery day. He is probably the strongest man I know. Got diagnosed with early stage squamous cell carcinoma of the throat a few weeks ago, but he is in full spirits today as he proceeds to battle it.” Rakesh is on a path to recovery and will be soon back to work as situation gets normal.

3. Manisha Koirala
Manisha was reported to be diagnosed with cancer on 29th November 2012. The actress then communicated that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Soon after, she underwent surgery on 10th December 2012. She defeated the disease after a successful surgery and even went on to write a book titled, “Healed: How Cancer Gave Me a New Life” to present the successful story of her struggle.

4. Anurag Basu
Anurag Basu, who is known for directing films like, Gangster, Barfi and Jagga Jasoos was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic Leukemia a type of blood cancer in 2004 when he was working on Tumsa Nahi Dekha. Roads seemed closed for his recovery and doctors had given up on his treatment. However, the verdict failed to shake him as he fought the battle head one and also completed the film from his hospital bed. He even wrote scripts for Life in a Metro and Gangster during this time and came out of it, as if nothing happened. Anurag’s fight against cancer is a story of true grit.

5. Tahira Kashyap
Filmmaker – writer Tahira Kashyap, who is also the wife of Ayushmann Khurrana, suffered from stage 0 breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy procedure. She later opened up about her fight in an audio podcast where she shared how in those difficult times she drew strength and energy from her husband and children to put up a brave fight. Tahira has since then been involved in raising awareness about the early detection of breast cancer. Being a supportive husband, Ayushmann has spoken about the roller-coaster of emotions and the challenges they went through the entire process as they constantly leaned on each other during her recovery.
