Makers of the film Billu had initially faced a lot of controversy for its title which was previously called Billu Barber. The Salon and Hairdressers' Union had protested against the usage of the word barber. Later, the makers decided to drop the word Barber and name the film Billu.

Filmmaker Pooja Bhatt got into a tussle with Vipul Shah over the title of the Akshay Kumar starrer film Holiday. She accused Shah of infringement of copyright.

Filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhanslai had to go through a lot of trouble with the film’s title which was supposed to be Ram-Leela. Six petitioners had filed a suit against the title, claiming that the film's original name - Ram Leela, hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and showed the Hindu gods in bad light. Bhansali had to later rename the film as Goliyon Ki Rasleela: Ram-Leela.
